Excellent hotel in the city center overlooking the castle. All the staff that I come across in this hotel were very nice and polite. The Guerlain spa is just amazing! I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The placement of the hotel is ideal next to the shopping streets (although I personally like to be closer to the Royal Mile). This hotel offers nice rooms, conference centers, a maned business center, a reasonable sized swiming pool and spa area, quality gym quipment, a well stocked bar and lounge areas. There is a historic feel to the hotel,...

I have traveled many places, This hotel is beautiful. The service is top. The entire staff is professional but still friendly. Rooms are large and clean. Bathroom is marble and with a tub and shower. Afternoon tea is a great break from all the sightseeing. Everything within walking distance. This is the only place to stay in Edinburgh.

Two nights for over 700 pounds for an ordinary room with no bath and tired surroundings. Stayed at a Hilton in Salt Lake City in May for half the price and a far superior room. Stayed at a Hilton in Newcastle in March and this was good value. I think the Edinburgh charges fees as it gets away with a...

We stayed at the Waldorf Hotel which is centrally situated for sightseeing and restaurants. We stayed five nights and it was not until the last night of our stay that we had a turn down in the evening. We were attending a large International conference and they also had a huge event for the University students getting their degrees. This...

Great Hotel in a Charming old building centrally located in Edinburgh. The Staff is fantastic. The rooms are nice but slightly dated. But the view of the Castle is stunning. The bar is beautiful! Obviously a great whiskey selection.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
