Short stay. Had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant. Biggest and best chips ever! The breakfast was also excellent. The room itself was nothing special. Very small and would have been much cosier if there had been curtains in the room rather than just a blind. Bathroom was quite dated. In saying that it is a very stylish hotel...

We travel to Edinburgh regularly, destination Murrayfield. We have stayed at The Bonham a number of times, and will do so again in March. Convenient location, near enough to, but far enough from, the hurly burly of Princes Street. Walk down behind the hotel, join the footpath by the water of Leith, and find yourself at the Botanical Gardens. It's...

Just returned from an overnight stay at The Bonham. This is a lovely hotel 10minutes walk from the top end of Princes Street, 15/20minutes from George Street & 30minutes from Waverley Station. We arrived at 11am and were lucky enough to check in & have our room immediately. The receptionist was very friendly & knowledgeable about the area & proved...

This was our 3rd stay at The Bonham over the last few years. We used an Itison deal this time which was excellent value. We had 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast in a superior room. The room was large with an excellent view over the city which I requested. All staff were friendly and helpful and were quick to...

I had an enjoyable stay at the Elegant boutique hotel situated in the west end of Edinburgh. Greeted by a more than helpful receptionist. The double room had lovely high ceilings that made the room feel spacious. However the double bed was clearly two singles pushed together with an inadequate mattress cover. I think for a 4* hotel you should...

We booked our 3 day stay a year ago, so the fact we did and for the length of our stay we were expecting a better room with a view. There was a total lack of hanging and draw space, and the kettle and tea were in the wardrobe. We were also shocked to find a £2 charge for bottled...

My wife and I met for the first time at the Bonham 46 years ago! Then of course it wasn't a hotel but owned by Edinburgh University and run as student and guest accommodation as Muir Hall of Residence, or "Muir for the Pure and Demure" as it was fondly referred to! Women only except for social occasions and we...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
