I stayed here on business and it works out fine. For couples there are far superior venues so wouldn't recommend. The outside looks great as does the first lounge. All a bit boutiquee. I had a quick lunch and it was good and competitively priced. My waitress was also attentive to my needs. The upstairs corridors are tired and could...

Have eaten here many times before (lunch and dinner) and found the staff still very friendly and welcoming - good value with a room overlooking the front only spoilt slightly by the noise of taxis dropping/picking up below. Very handy and well placed for the town as so centrally positioned with everything within walking distance.

We are just back from a long weekend stay at Bonhams. We had a upgraded room and were rewarded with the most amazing views of Edinburgh. The room was well presented, elegant but up to date in style. Bed was comfortable and wide. When we returned to the hotel from dinner, we brought a malt whisky with us up to...

The Bonham occupies a stately building that has had an interesting past - as upmarket townhouses, as a private clinic, and then what must have been som of the classiest halls of residence for students at the University of Edinburgh. Classic Victorian architecture next to leafy Drumsheugh Gardens in the west end of Edinburgh. Spacious, tall-ceilinged rooms with period furnishings,...

We stayed here for a weekend in Edinburgh on the recommendation of a couple of friends. It was in a lovely location on the west side of the city about a 10 minute walk from the centre and attractions. The room was nice although was a warm when we got there...switching off the radiator and opening the window to some...

This was our second stay in The Bonham after a visit in 2005. We'd booked about 11 months ago as we enjoyed the hotel, it's ambience and location. This time we were disappointed in the allocated room, downstairs with only a view of the car park. Some other issues with the ripped bedding were promptly sorted by management, however the...

This is our umpteenth visit to the Bonham Hotel. This time it was for the celebration of my 70th birthday. As usual the staff excelled themselves, making our stay a really enjoyable occasion. We were totally pampered and our little Yorkshire Terrier Poppy who always comes with us went down a storm as usual. We had a beautiful superior room...

This property is a wonderful place to stay if you are in Edinburgh. The room we had was quite spacious and very comfortable. The entire staff was very nice and always cheerful and willing to help with what ever you needed. The location is great, within easy walking distance of many dining establishments, points of interest, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed...

We stayed at The Bonham for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay in Edinburgh. The majority of the reviews speak very highly of the hotel but I do think there is definitely room for improvement. On arrival it smelt damp and musty. The carpet in the reception, staircase and hallways were worn and the walls in our bedroom could have...

I had a delightful stay here one night on business to Edinburgh. The room was clean and modern through renovation and the whole facility looked well maintained. The staff was attentive and a pleasure to work with. Parking is tough and it isn't very well marked from the street if you are driving yourself, but I would stay here again...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
