Prestonfield Hotel emerges as a beacon of luxury, with guests frequently extolling its sumptuous amenities, including champagne and chocolates, which contribute to an indulgent atmosphere. The cleanliness is top-notch, as noted by visitors who commend the spotless rooms and impeccable grounds. While the hotel's location near central Edinburgh is a hit for its convenience, opinions on its value are mixed; some guests find it pricey. The service garners accolades for being friendly and professional, although a few reports of sluggishness surface. Overall, the opulent decor and comfortable rooms round out the lavish experience.

So I’ve been here before and had the afternoon tea before too. This time round I opted for the champagne afternoon tea with my partner.

Booking was pretty simple and was able to do this online the same day. A card is required to secure your reservation, I’m presuming that’s so your charged if you don’t show up, not sure why. I don’t remember doing this before however it’s not an issue.

This venue is excellent for the Covid conscious following regulations. There is hand sanitiser everywhere as well as tables spaced far apart from each other, while still being cosy! There’s nothing to worry about here.

Staff are very attentive although we seem to have a nervous guy who was possibly new? He was friendly and checked in every 15/20 minutes I only noticed as his hand was shaking a little when moving the saucers to the table from the tray. I wish I got his name as he was excellent and friendly.

There was also a second member of staff who constantly replaced the firewood in the fireplace I did try to start a short conversation just asking how many times he has to do that, but he didn’t seem to want to talk. Actually more like he wasn’t allowed? Maybe it was just unexpected for me to ask? He answered my question and then wished me a pleasant evening.

Sandwiches and cakes were great and so we’re the pots of tea. We shared a afternoon tea between us each with a pot and additional glass of champagne.

The whole experience was nice from them accommodating my request to be in the leather room to sit in front of the fireplace. It’s always super clean and everyone is always friendly.

I’ll be definitely coming back at some point yet again and I would highly recommend the afternoon tea.

I will say that it’s not the cheapest for afternoon tea however you pay for the service and the atmosphere and the venue and grounds are immaculate. If you get the chance to go here don’t miss it.

My friends and I were at Prestonfield House Hotel for our afternoon. Reasons we chose the Prestonfield as myself and another friend on our group had our wedding at this wonderful venue. Also we felt we deserve a real treat with Lockdown restrictions easing, as well as as it was the last day for Help out eat out scheme. We were welcomed qt the door with a quick contactless temperature check as well as being advised to use hand sanitiser via the foot pumped operated sanitiser. I was very impressed with the precautions taken. Our designate waiter was Rico and he took us to our reserved table. I enquired about the possibility of having our afternoon tea on their grounds outside and Rico immediately went about organising tables outside for us. After we were seated outside, he made sure our table inside was reserved for us incase the weather changes, we're in Scotland after all. It was such a thoughtful thing to do. My friends felt very looked after by Rico during our afternoon, the food were delicious and more than enough for the 7 of us, we even asked for take out boxes for the cakes as we were full and soome of us had to rush off to pick up our children from school. We had an unforgettable day at the Prestonfield. Here's to next time!

Stayed overnight for a special occasion. The hotel were aware of this in advance and whilst we didn't expect any special treatment it would have been nice if this had been acknowledged. Good points - (a) beautiful surroundings and lovely spacious room, (b) lovely, attentive and very professional staff, (c) quiet outlook, (d) superb dinner in Rhubarb. Not so good points - (a) the owner was on site and it would have been nice if he had taken the time to speak to guests, just a little "hello, are you enjoying your stay" would have been nice, (b) afternoon tea items had been left outside after guests left; these ended up being attacked by crows which was off putting, (c) a 10% service charge is added to everything, this was unexpected and I think somewhat cheeky. While I don't mind this being added to a dinner charge, it gets a bit much when added to each and every round of drinks bought as the cost of our room wasn't cheap in itself. (d) we had ordered afternoon tea and were seated at the time we had booked, however it took nearly an hour for it to arrive. It was lovely but nothing special for £50 a head plus the obligatory 10% service charge on top. (e) the window cleaner started cleaning the windows just after 0900; I realise they have to be done but it surely could have been done later in the day. (f) opened the curtains a couple of times to find dog walkers walking past our ground floor window. We enjoyed our stay, however it's unlikely we would return for an overnight stay. A real shame as we had high hopes for Prestonfield.

My wife and I stayed at Prestonfield at the end of October. The setting is lovely and you can't believe you are only a 5 minute drive from the centre of Edinburgh (or a 50 minute walk).

The building itself is magnificent, beautiful as you approach down the long drive with ample parking provided for guests.

We were warmly greeted at the entrance, our cases were duly taken and we were guided to reception where another warm smile was waiting. Our every need was catered for and we were invited to wander around the building and use any of the lounges where snacks and drinks would be served on request . . . a lovely touch.

We had a classic room which, like the rest of the hotel, was beautify decorated in an extravagant baroque style with sculptures; intricate tapestries; sculpted wood mirrors, mouldings and panelled effect ceiling and lots of soft lighting.

The public areas within the hotel are full of interesting artefacts and antiques, it's a delight to wander around with so much history to absorb.

We had dinner in Rhubarb Restaurant which was so relaxing and the staff so attentive. The food was delicious and the wine selection extremely good with the list clearly has something for every taste.

We never felt rushed at anytime and were regular asked if there was anything staff could do for us or we required, a nice touch and not overpowering.

Breakfast selection was more than ample, with the option to have this served in your room. We decided to try this one morning. Although more than plentiful, the kitchen did forget one fruit bowl and it took two trips due to the coffee not being ready. This in no way spoilt our breakfast which we enjoyed at the small dining table in our room next to our window overlooking the grounds. So indulgent.

Some downsides;

The room was dark, although I could see this was in keeping with the baroque style, age of the building and guest experience.

The bed, was clearly an antique and very high, there was a step at one side which added to the experience. However, it was not the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in.

The room was hot and we had to leave the window open all night.

A minor thing for us was the bathroom with an over-bath shower. This was adequate, however, we do prefer a walk-in shower with ample space, due to the age of the hotel, this clearly isn't an option.

The hotel is clearly a very old and stylish building which is not to everyones taste, so not everything is modern and trendy.

Overall, a great experience and a hotel which has it's own unique style. Warm friendly staff, excellent food all set within magnificent gardens and grounds so close to the city centre.

What a wonderful evening! From the minute we arrived, nothing was too much trouble. We had booked a private room, (the Garden Room) which was very decorative, for a group dinner and it was truly special. The entrance was beautifully decorated, (it was Christmas!) and the journey to the private room passed through a corridor of opulence -think we all knew it was going to be a lovely evening :)
The food lived up to expectations and the chefs and waiting staff delivered on everything, (no mean feat serving 26 people at the same time!), Thank you!

Loved everything about this hotel. Beautiful decor, fantastic setting, gorgeous bedroom with complimentary champagne, chocolates, posh crisps to name but a few. We enjoyed cocktails in the very beautiful tapestry room followed by dinner in Rhubarb Restaurant which was lovely. Great food in an amazing dining room. The staff throughout the hotel were all lovely and welcoming with great service. Not at all stuffy. Being dog friendly was a great bonus for us too. I'd urge anyone to stay here if you get the chance - you won't regret it! Made my 60th birthday so memorable. Thank you. I hope we get to visit again soon

It is a beautiful hotel. Design of the decoration in this hotel is beautiful beyond expression. Staffs are nice and very considerate and attentive. They made us and dogs feel very welcome. In the room they prepare a Champaign, a big sparkling and a still water bottle in an ice bucket handmade cookies, chocolate everyday ! They remember what we want. It made us feel very at home. One suggestion is mattress in our room was a little lumpy.

My wife and I had a lovely night at Prestonfield to celebrate our Silver Wedding anniversary. It's been around 3 years since our last visit and this has been the best yet. The room was as special as always and the chilled champaign, fresh cookies, homemade chocolates and lovely crisps were amazing and welcome :-) We had a bar dinner in the evening which was incredible and the breakfast the next day continued the level of the quality and flavour. Not even mentioned the staff yet - who were all ultra attentive, polite, helpful and pleasant. What an amazing stay!! Thank you to all the staff. This is our favourite hotel - anywhere.
