A regular user of the Mal Manson chain will know that it is quirky and you expect something other than the ordinary. Personally, I think the make-over at Leith has not done it any favours. 'Urban chic' feels dated already but worst of all it has detracted from what was a really comfortable relaxing environment. It now feels slightly edgy,...

I really like this hotel, friendly check in, great, well laid out room on the fourth floor with nice toiletries and a great shower, wee quirky touches, quiet at night, quality breakfast, good location. What's not to like?

Malmaison in Leith is now our hotel of choice on our regular visits to Auld Reekie. Helpful, pleasant staff,a high standard of furnishings and decor and comfortable beds all combine along with a lively, vibrant area to keep us returning.

We had chosen this Malmaison Hotel both on reputation of the chain, and some previous reviews, but our experience was nowhere near as good as we anticipated. The location is fantastic, the reception staff were great, the Bar was very good, and from what we saw the restaurant appeared to be fine. However the room was a nightmare, and that...

For a just a little more outlay, this two night stay was pure class. I was on a business trip and having used other branded outlets chose this hotel for a change. The meet and greet, room, bar, dining room all superb. Service with a smile, excellent selection of bespoke ales and the food was outstanding. Thank you everyone for...

It was lovely to visit this hotel again and I remember visiting when it first opened when Leith was just being renovated. There is a lot of competition now and whilst the setting is great and the staff are lovely it just all seems a bit tired and dated now.

This hotel created quite a stir when it opened, back at the start of the massive renewal of Leith into a vibrant destination, so we looked forward to our stay. Our room,an upgrade, was spacious and comfortable with pleasant views over the water. Some nice touches eg robes, fruit, sweeties, bottled water etc. Sadly, the bathroom was a bit tired and shabby by comparison and...

Stayed here a few times now with work, and the hotel doesn't disappoint - rooms are large, clean and the beds super comfy The staff are friendly and the food in the main restaurant is good, especially the breakfast Make sure to enquire about any deals they have: I have taken advantage of 3 course dinner, glass of wine, cocktail...

We stayed 2 nights at the Malmaison. Like all other Malmaison hotels, the decor seems a bit too dark for my liking. Our room was very spacious with comfy bed, good powerful shower, very clean with free expresso coffee maker. The location of the hotel is very good, with free parking, and lots of cafes, bars and restaurants nearby. We...

Where to take my Mum for her Birthday treat? What would be a good outing for someone not quite in the first flush of youth? Afternoon tea. But where? Malmaison is a place I've been to before but never quite associated with genteel customs like afternoon tea. But the description looked great so off we went. I could not fault...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It's the mother of all Malmaison's. The former house of ill-repute now has a reputation that's second to none, and it's also just a short taxi ride away from Waverley Station. Malmaison Edinburgh bides at Leith (as they say up here), just a stone's throw from the Royal Yacht Britannia, but offering far more funky luxury. Yes, when you want exciting hotels in Edinburgh, this is the King, not the castle. Our Edinburgh hotel puts you close to all of Edinburgh's cobbled splendours, incredible shopping and famous galleries. Then it's back to Mal for Scots dining with a twist, a fine selection of single malts and mojitos in the bar and then back to the slinkiest and most spectacular rooms in the Scots capital. ... more   less
