Peaceful location about a 30 minute walk from the main attractions. Exceptionally helpful staff. Room itself was somewhat tired with cracked tiles and aged decor. The photos on the site only show the luxury rooms so prepare o be disappointed if you expect similar accommodation. Also the room did not have all the advertised facilities I.e. DVD player - though...

An excellent hotel. The room was spotless, the food was excellent and for what i saw in other parts of the city it was quite reasonably priced, though we only ate in the bar not the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful in any request we had. It was only a short walk to Princes street. I would...

We stayed in Channings for a weekend and were pleasantly surprised at the space and quiet offered in the centre of Edinburgh. Excellent service at all points - check-in, room service, breakfast and general reception. A lovely comfortable lounge area with newspapers and a cool little bar. We did not eat dinner here but breakfast was easy, tasty and unhurried....

Very small and quite to stay hotel. Located not far from historical centre but on the residential lane on a hill with a view on a castle. 5 min walk to the Modern art gallery that consist of two buildings. Staff is super polite and helpful. But do not expect very modern room, nevertheless everything is clean.

Nice hotel in peaceful area but only 15 mins walk to Princes street . Staff all very helpful and friendly . Great sized bedroom but slightly worn and in need of an upgrade . Excellent view from bedroom . Dined in bar on one occasion and found food to be basic and overpriced . One of our meals was served...

We ended up in Edinburgh unexpectedly last week and booked our room on arrival. We found the manager very pleasant to deal with and were upgraded to a suite which we weren't expecting. The room wasn't the newest, shiniest most modern room I've ever stayed in but I really liked it, it felt warm and comfortable and the view was...

We stayed here for an evening as we were out and about in the Stockbridge area. First impressions were good, a clean well presented hotel with professional friendly staff. The room we stayed in was a superior double so it came with a roll top bath and a separate shower. Breakfast was buffet style with cooked breakfast as is the...

What strikes me immediately when I recall our stay at The Channings Hotel was the quality of our room. We stayed in the Discovery Room on the top floor. Not only was it big, but the bathroom was HUGE. It was like a home away from home, bathtub included. I felt as though it was a good value since I...

We stayed two nights on a Superbreak deal with two other members of the family. Having requested a quiet room when we booked for all four we were placed at the rear of the hotel and were consequently envious of our companions wonderful view over Edinburgh. Their room was quiet too and we know where we will stay next time!...

We visited here as part of our 2nd Wedding Anniversary. It was a one night stay to break up a journey down South from Angus way. As I have an interest in Shackleton, the fact he used to live there was a nice side to the visit. In the literature inline about the hotel they talk of Shackleton often but...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'. Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels a bit like a Scottish country home, full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia reflecting the history of previous tenant Sir Ernest Shackleton. ... more   less
