With a last minute request, we were booked into a beautiful two-room suite, from a free upgrade! Parts of the property maintain an "old world" charm, while some areas have been fashionably updated with ultra modern fixtures. Excellent breakfast with many options from which to choose. Friendly staff and parking for the car was included.

I booked this hotel for my parents for their 35th wedding anniversary. They received a free room upgrade and chocolate's in the room. My mum said the hotel was the nicest hotel they have ever stayed in, and she was absolutely over the moon. She tells me the bed was huge, the vintage decor and 'old Edinburgh' themed furniture was...

Beautiful hotel! Service was great. The room was tiny, but clean. Breakfast could have been better - you have to pay if you want more than yoghurt, fruit and cereals. Walking distance to the old city and The Royal Mile. The airport bus stops just outside the hotel.

My husband and I stayed at The Dunstane for three nights, and it was absolutely wonderful! Our room was beautiful and far larger than I was anticipating. We especially loved the large tub in our bathroom and the separate seating area. The staff at The Dunstane went above and beyond to help us get deals on sightseeing and helped us...

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night on Saturday. The hotel has had a refurb and it really is lovely. The room was small but adequate and very nicely modernised and decorated. If I visit Edinburgh in the future I would stay here without hesitation. The staff were very friendly and welcoming too. They had left me some chocolates...

The small double room is totally different from the classic double room you see online. As you can see from my photo, it has no bedside tables or tea table. The only places we can put our staff are shelves on the wall, one desk, one chair and the FLOOR! And the room we book has very pungent odor paint!

Hello there I am so sorry that you did not have the experience that you were expecting at the Dunstane Houses. Our small doubles rooms are great for a night away or for those with a tighter budget but they are just what we say on the tin - they are small. I am sorry you did not find there...

This hotel is a great choice if you like boutique hotels. The place was cosy and the staff were friendly. The room we got was the Mhor on the top floor room 17, the bathroom was amazing, and the views were great. Location wise it is a 40 minute walk to Princess Street, but there is a bus stop outside...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Dunstane dates all the way back to 1852 to a design of William Playfair, one of Edinburgh's most famous architects. Now a boutique hotel privately-owned and managed by Derek and Shirley Mowat, each of our bedrooms offers a fresh take on country house charm. You can look forward to restful nights in four-poster beds with subtle accents of current style. Or stretch out king-size and enjoy all the period details and in-room features. ... more   less
