After my last review of the Mercure they have greatly redeemed themselves . The Christmas party's have left and the staff can now cope with the guests. Food and staff were always great, it was the management of the numbers that let the hotel down. But now it is excellent , well done.

Dated hotel badly in need of updating. Moved from first room as bathroom was unacceptable. Second room bigger but bathroom much the same. No handle on bathroom door, reported and was repaired....we thought. It came off in my hand! Breakfast was passable, cold plates, food not hot or replenished fast enough. Tables not cleared. Had to ask for tea and...

We checked in for an overnight stay combining dinner and a bit of shopping. This was a discount deal ( can't recall which one ) costing £100 for bed and breakfast. Initially we were given room 572 at the back of the hotel overlooking a wall and a fire escape and whilst it was clean and had no major issues...

We stayed for 2 nights Bed & Breakfast. We caught a taxi from the airport to the hotel which was £17 each way and took 15/20 mins. You can catch the tram, but due to our flights times it would not have suited us and takes 25/30 mins. On arrival we were given our room 445 which was on the...

So yes here's the positives... On arrival service was good. Room overlooking the gardens and Xmas market was stunning!! Made it...

Currently spending a night here to visit the Christmas market (unfortunately we left it late so this was one of the only hotels available!) Location of the hotel is excellent and staff are very pleasant. We're staying in a privilege room with castle view and the views really are great. Noise from Princes Street not really an issue. Unfortunately they...

Booked this hotel as a itison deal and I decided to upgrade the room and thank goodness I did after reading some of the other reviews . Our room had a castle view and was one of the newly renovated rooms .Definately worth the upgrade , as for the location you can't get much more central than this handy for...

We stayed at the Mercure on sat 25th November, myself, husband and 15 month old daughter. Hotel is in a great location, however I booked this room months in advance and despite asking for a travel cot we were put in a room directly above a disco with a DJ blasting music out until after midnight. Our one year old...

We went to this hotel for 3 nights to visit the xmas market. The room photo advertised looked really good and I had a previous good experience at another Mercure. Despite asking twice for a room overlooking princes street, we were given a small one out the back with a view of only the fire escape and a brick wall....

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
