A large hotel conveniently situated in the heart of Edinburgh. The rooms were pleasant if a little drab along with the en suite but the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was no air conditioning but fans were provided - we didn't use the fan but instead opened up the windows - even so it was stuffy in the...

I recently stayed at the Mecure on Princes Street for work. Location: located in the heart of Princes Street and with expansive views of Edinburgh Castle, it's hard to imagine a better location in Edinburgh. Arrival and check in: check in was fine, with a small reception desk on the first floor accessible by stairs or lift. Staff: staff were...

I don't know what was going on with this hotel. It's a very strange place. It's not maliciously bad, but it's a very tired property. I had a fine stay at a hotel operated by this same brand earlier in the year in South America so I assumed (foolishly, as it turns out) that I'd find similar quality here. So...

We stayed for several nights during last summer trip. Greeted by friendly staff during arrival really boost your spirit. They are very helpful and informative to the guest. Having reserved for two rooms, actually we only utilized one room because our family member are still kids. Tried to refund for the un-utilized room but apparently seems not possible. Our room...

We stayed at the Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street Hotel on our first night in Scotland. Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
