This hotel is perfectly situated for exploring Edinburgh. OK it's a bit noisy at night but so are most city centre hotels. The room was large and clean with a large wide screen TV and a kettle and tea/coffee were supplied. The bed was comfortable but it wasn't a double, it was two singles put together as tends to be...

First off, staff were very friendly! Upon arrival we were exhausted (red-eye flight) and the airline had lost my luggage, so we weren't "happy campers". They greeted us with sympathy and drew out a map to the pharmacy, clothing stores, etc. to help us out (as well as hold my husband's luggage in the meantime). The room was great, we...

Booked this property, originally, back in March. Understanding that the Tatttoo and the Fringe were on, the price seemed steep, but almost understandable at 265 GBP per night. Didn't think much about it, but prior to leaving for our trip (actually before heading to the airport, I double checked) and the rate had dropped 143 GBP per night! Seriously! For...

The location is great, out room had a view of the castle in the distance. The hotel is on the same road as the train station and many high street shops. We visited in December 2015 and the festive markets took place opposite the hotel. However the decor was very old and tired, the hotel could go with a refurbishment....

Location of this hotel is fantastic. Right in the centre of things. We paid extra for a view of the castle and our view was well worth it. Staff polite and helpful. Breakfast was good. Porridge was great. It was noisy at night but then I found hubby had left the window a bit open. All round a great stay.

We stayed a week-end in the hotel and got a room with excelent view to the castel. The room could have been better cleaned and all the carpets in the hotel should bee removed or changed. We got a verry good afternoon tea and cocktails in the bar. Miss online check-in and check-out. We also prefere a shower instead of...

We stayed here as it was my wife's birthday and we couldn't fault the hotel at all. It is set in a great location and everything was within walking distance for us. We booked a superior room which was right at the top of the hotel with brilliant views of the castle. The room looked newly renovated and was very...

The hotel is in a good location on Princes Street. Convenient for shopping, restaurants and walking over to the Royal Mile. The views of Edinburgh Castle are great, especially when lit up in the evening. Room was decent size, especially for Europe type rooms. Bathroom was good size and there was coffee and tea making appliances, plus a pants press...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
