We were staying in this hotel from long weekend. Location is perfect and close to everywhere. Price of the hotel is not too bad average. The room is clean and bathroom also very clean. One thing we are not really happy is the front office team. When we checked in. She was not really friendly at all and no greetings...

We had a twin room on the 6th flootR. The noise is ridiculous, they need to fix the glazing, just as well they are pulling this place down. The beds were horribkLe, saggy, shakey and uncomfortable, the bathroom was tiny, could not have a bath as we could not budge the hot water tap.

Location is fantastic especially for the price and breakfast was included. The breakfast was a good start to the day and definitely something for everyone. Staff were really friendly, easy check in/check out and the room itself was spotless, loads of storage space and the beds were really comfy.

The King James hotel is in the right location for tourists. You can't get better location than this. Rooms were good size and clean. However, bit dated. Breakfast was good with plenty of options. Staff were friendly and efficient. Didn't order food as there weren't plenty of options within the hotel. However, many places to eat outside the hotel.

We have been staying at this centrally located hotel for many years now. It has much to offer, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, the best breakfasts in Edinburgh, handy location for trains, buses, walking everywhere. Our recent stay had all this, only downside is there is no air conditioning so we had to leave the bedroom window open and there is...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
