From the moment we arrived at The Principal, George Street we instantly felt at home. The superb Concierge, Reception and actually all staff were brilliant. It really felt that they were happy to be there and assist us. Our room were lovely and the beds extremely comfy. I was a little cold and the wonderful concierge bought up a heater...

Everything about this hotel, from the brilliant staff to their pristine rooms was perfect. It is right in the centre of the city just a short walk from the station. Surrounded by a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants. Nothing was too much effort for the staff who were all attentive, friendly and seemed happy to be working there...

Check in efficient and professional, room small but well equipped, breakfast one of the best I have had in a hotel, but unfortunately this was all overshadowed by the noise coming from the nightclub adjacent to the hotel till gone 2am. We were on the 6th floor and could still hear the loud music and the revellers clear as day,...

We could not ask for anything more! The staff was beyond wonderful and helpful. We enjoyed chatting with each of them. Especially Kaitlyn, she was...

Usually stay for work. Hotel has been upgraded but still details not sorted. Main disadvantage is that there is no gym or workout facilities. Hotel will refer you to their other property which is about 10 minute walk away.

This is a lovely hotel. It's quite small (aka no conferences, etc.), but also recently renovated and very clean. It's an old town house that has been gutted and expanded for the new use. The renovation was well done - it feels very modern (cool shower with like a faux wood floor that's very 'in'), but also has traditional furniture...

Excellent all-round service from the initial booking of 6 rooms with different arrivals and departures, to the pre-arrival phase with confirmations and changes and requests, to the check-in which all went very smoothly. Great breakfast and excellent service throughout!

Great hotel, good location Front of house staff all amazing! Food great and the bedrooms really nice and comfy bed. Although the hotel is situated in the centre of the town you wouldn't know it from inside the room, very well sound proofed .

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
