Fantastic location... good rooms though sink was blocked.... lovely quiet room... free soft drinks and snacks in mini bar and the best bit was that breakfast ran until 1pm on New Year's Day. That's really thinking about your guests and we were delighted we didn't have to get up early after the hogmany. Extra pillows no problem! Reception staff fabulous...

Stayed here recently with my husband. I cannot fault the room or the staff which were excellent. Great location to explore the city. Easily reached by tram from the airport. Lots of lovely pubs and restaurants nearby. We will be back 👍

Stayed here before and so was looking forward to it very much. Got a bed and breakfast deal for £99 which was great for Boxing Day in the city centre. As always the service was excellent from the moment we arrived. The room was very clean, with plenty of towels, dressing gowns and a well stocked fridge. The staff were...

Firstly let me say that the reception staff and staff tending to breakfast were excellent. Being an IHG Rewards club member I always choose hotels in the group when ever possible. On this occasion I booked a flexible rate with breakfast at the hotel as we were visiting the City for our work Christmas Party. On arrival I was asked...

I am a member of IHG hotels and the Indigo chain is brilliant. Hotel is so quirky and modern it is a great place to stay. Brilliant location, 2 mins walk to Princes Street, 10 mins to Royal Mile. Would recommend anyone stay here.

Good rooms, amazing decor. A short walk away from the Calton Hill and the High Street. Only downside, I wish they had more vegetarian options on their menu. Amazing veg haggis in their tapas menu. Staff were very helpful and polite.

We stayed here a couple of years ago and loved it. The rooms are still lovely and location is perfect. However, having had a courtesy call on the day before, why did they not tell us the restaurant would be closed on the evening we were going to be there? Breakfast was a disaster. Our order was 'forgotten' we waited...

Quite disappointed this stay. Was ignored by staff as I dragged my case up the steep entrance steps, which wasn't a nice welcome. The car park they recommend to park at was being demolished - might have been nice for them to tell me this as I was now floundering in the traffic looking for parking elsewhere. The room was...

I stayed here recently for a romantic weekend and wasn't left disappointed. The room was nice and spacious, warm & airy and very bright. Unusually you were able to open the windows which is nice to get the air flowing as some hotels with air conditioning can be very stuffy. The bed was massive and had a TV at the...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
