This is a delightful B&B managed by a delightful young lady who is full of good advice and friendly service. The home is a bit old, but adequately kept up to date. The breakfasts are perfectly fine with eggs cooked to order and the usual cereals available as well. The bedroom was very comfortable and warm enough with the cold...

Booked a room with two twin beds in June 2015 for a stay in January 2016. Paid in advance. Arrived on the designated date only to find the lodge closed. Contacted the management and was told that they had decided to close for the month of January. Said they had not charged my credit card which they had in June....

The staff were very welcoming and helpful on our arrival and throughout our stay. The room was very spacious and warm, the bed was comfortable, the amenities were all working fine and the en suite was very nice with a lovely powerful shower. The breakfast was excellent with a variety of cereals, fruit, yogurt, full Scottish breakfast and pastries, tea,...

We arrived in the afternoon to a cold room and a less than warm welcome . As we were going out we turned the radiators on before we left and came back to a cosy room . It was adequate although a bit tired . There was plenty tea , coffee etc and toiletries if needed . The small double...

Dear, Thank you for your recent TripAdvisor review and for the specific examples you provided. I sincerely apologize for the lapses you encountered during your stay and I assure you this is not typical of a visit to The Lodge. Our records show that you checked-in early and opted to leave your vehicle with us during the following day. Unfortunately,...

The room was okay. But the doors had automatic closures on them and so they slammed quite load if you didn't have hold of them. The bathroom was huge and very nice. The bedroom was a bit small, and the mattress was very uncomfortable and made my bank very painful and also the pillows were very lumpy. The hotel was...

Really welcoming on arrival with my family. The family room is very spacious and the en suite is nice and the shower is powerful. Beds are really spacious and comfortable. Great location with bus stop just outside only 5 to 10 minutes into city centre and the same amount to the zoo. Edinburgh lodge is located on a fairly busy...

We had a wonderful 5 night stay at this guest house with family. We were able to check in early on our arrival and Matia (apologies for spelling) gave us a warm welcome before taking our luggage to our rooms. We didn’t see him again but the other staff we met at reception are so warm and friendly it was...

Stayed here for two nights. The receptionist is very friendly and helpful. I booked the room online in a hurry and was surprised to find that breakfast wasn't included. My fault I know... Still a nice place to stay.

The lodging was very comfortable, staff very helpful and friendly. Camilla was exceptional with everything, a true hospitatlity person, very enjoyable to converse with, very helpful on how to get around Edinburgh. Breakfast was good and we enjoyed our stay very much, would return if in the vacinity. Oh, loved our 3 Belgian friends we met after the Foo Fighter...

The receptionist 'Camila' is the best thing about this hotel! very efficient attentive and helpful, however the rest of the hotel is a bit tired, considering the price the rooms are a bit 1970's. Avoid room 11 which we got, right next to boiler room and we could hear water gurgling loudly through the night. Breakfast was plentiful with attentive...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
