Lovely and cozy place. Very close from the train and bus station. The hostess was very friendly and she gave useful information to have a nice trip around Edinburgh. You can cook your own food and the hostel has free coffee and tea during the day so you can feel at home. It is nice to enjoy a cup of...

Really nice vibe , super welcoming and warm. Bit hard to find and NO taxi drivers know where you are speaking about , Scottish people are so friendly though ended up being helped out by about 6 people. Good location and make sure you go for diner at the whiskey bar next to it , amazing sea food and drinks....

This is a nice small hostel not far from Princes street. The tenant was very kind and helpful. Breakfast was simple but nice. I liked the fresh bread cooked every morning (like home!). The entry was quite hard to find and difficult to access if you have several suitcases. However, the rooms were not always clean and needed some fresh...

I loved to stay in this hostel. It felt like home from home. Sarah the owner really made me feel welcome. She gave me a map of the city and pointed out all the main things as well as the nearest super market etc. Everyone got a key from their room and the front door and could come and go...

I really enjoyed my stay at Allgirlz Hostel. I normally don't mix up that much but this place really feels like home. I had a really good time there. I was supposed to stay there 4 nights, I ended up going back there between my trips in Scotland, so I stayed a total of 7 nights. The location is great,...

Sarah is a super lovely host, and very accomodating (we missed our train and arrived a bit after the 8pm deadline – as soon as she was aware we were told it wasn't a problem). The rooms are big and extremely comfortable, breakfast is available and of good quality — plenty to choose from. The whole hostel has a relaxing...

Very comfortable and homelike hostel near the train station (in 10 min by walk) with a great seaview from the street. Very close to the tour-buses' stop and a park. Free wi-fi and breakfast included (but sometimes you can find for free food in a fridge later). Good company of only girls.

This place is in an excellent location! It felt more like a girls college dorm...and looked like it too. It could use some cleaning and new carpets, but it has great potential. It is comfortable and you get what you pay for. It could use another bathroom for all of those girls. The entry way requires some work as well...

Allgirlz hostel is an amazing hostel! It's small with only three dorm rooms (4, 6 & 8 beds) and is more like sharing a flat that staying in a hostel. I found the house was always heated really well, the atmosphere was friendly and hostess was always helpful with suggestions for things to see and do. The breakfast is really...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
