Lovely hotel with amazing choice of food for breakfast. Good location for the zoo. The problem we had was the room was only set up with a double bed and we had booked a triple room. There was no bedding for the sofa bed and only 2 mugs etc. We had to ask twice before the manager finally turned up with everything needed. They were really friendly and very apologetic for the mistake.

Be careful on check in. The room I booked was a premium room at £240. On entering my room I found it was a standard double! Back at reception they told me no premium rooms were available. I had to ask for a price reduction as they were quite happy to take the premium rate. Also if you want breakfast and there’s coach parties in hotel save your self a lot of bother and just go to Greggs ! You’ll not even get to the coffee machine. All in not what you would expect.

Start with the good bit - When we arrived the staff where super friendly and chatty we where given a free upgrade the room was lovely perfect for just the two of us. Breakfast tasted incredible and morning staff where brilliant couldn't fault them one bit, the swimming pool was lovely and staff very friendly. Great location. The Bad bit - The night staff in the restaurant where rude and we felt very rushed as we dined in the hotel. We then tried room service which really was a disgrace, the people on the phone where rude and very short in directing me to the bar/restaurant the food itself was not the best and gave us both bad bellies, I was given the tray of food and that was that not a thank you no help in holding the heavy door. The food and drinks where very expensive. Then check out which left us leaving pretty peed so after having a "tray" charge when ordering room service which turned out to be £10 which as far as we could see was not mentioned. We where then expected to pay by card asked to pay in cash and got the response of "We don't have cash draws so if you don't have the right change then tough" There was no sign to inform you of this the fact that change can't be given I would expect the Hotel to pay the extra if they can't clear it as it's your issue not ours. Other than that okay.

Shall we start with the good? It was clean downstairs and Nathan was very welcoming, the pool was nice and warm and we had it to ourselves for about 15 minutes which was great, view at the front of the hotel is lovely over the hills and you're right next to the zoo which is good if you're a fan of identifying strange noises and things that go Moo/cluck/quack in the night (only joking). Unfortunately in the night our toilet started playing up and it all went a bit downhill from there, got to reception in the morning and the young lady said "Did you have a lovely stay", "No not really it could have been better because no one came to see about our toilet" silence and then "And? What else?" What school of customer service did you go to, well since you asked Ms Reception Lady whose name I didn't get here you go have a list: * First impressions, tiny parking spaces you can barely get into and if you're late you may not even get a space as there aren't many, the undercover ones need some serious maintenance (Photo attached) * If a room with children calls you at 9pm to say they have a blocked toilet please do send someone to look at it or suggest moving to another room. * When they call back at 11pm saying we've temporarily fixed it don't say "oh I don't know anything about that!!" * Room 467 has a toilet that is only fit for Hobbits, it's less than a foot off the ground and it's wonky so not only are your knees up around your ears you're also falling off to the left and fearing that any toilet water is at any minute going to spill forward onto the floor, then you have the cheek to put up a sign saying "Do Not Flood The Bathroom" well it's your wonky bog mate not mine!! * do please ensure there is no dust on the headboard, no mould under the windows, no dirty grout in the bathroom and no holes kicked in the walls, all easily fixed but make a seriously bad impression (photos attached) * do please ensure there is cash for change in the tills so people don't have to order the right amount of drinks to go with their £20 note! "We don't keep change in the till" * Please also feel free to do some necessary due diligence and DON'T put a family with kids next to a group of blokes so obviously on a stag doo, it doesn't bode well for a good night sleep. * Please ask why waiting staff would move a family of 4 from a table by the window to another table by the window telling us we couldn't sit there and 10 minutes later sitting other people in the same spot and please do give people a chance to eat instead of lingering around waiting to pounce on their empty plates. * Breakfast at 8am is fine if you don't mind wandering about looking for everything you need, but any time between 9-10 it's a bun fight don't even attempt it, kids are running riot under people's feet who are trying not to spill hot drinks and food on the little darling's heads, the queue for the toaster is halfway across the restaurant and people get really aggy if you try to just grab a banana! * Last but not least and I'm aware this is industry standard but I hate the bedding, the sheet that doesn't really fit the bed and the duvet cover with holes in the top and no fastenings at the bottom so everything is just hanging out and about (but that's not specific to this hotel) So there you go love, there's your list, I do hope you enjoy the read through! Shame, wish we'd gone back to Berwick Upon Tweed to the Premier Inn it was much nicer there. Thank you and goodbye x

I would like to start by apologizing to you for not meeting your expectations. We strive to make each stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible, and we will use your comments to coach our team in order to provide a better experience in the future. First thing regarding parking we have some spaces on our own and there have plenty of space in the zoo which is next door. We can't guarantee about the parking it's first come first serve. I already spoke with our housekeeping and maintenance manager regarding mould, dust, Dirty grouts, and holes in the bathroom, window. Our hotel is a cashless hotel and I spoke with F & B manager regarding morning staff. Thank you for letting us everything. I hope you will give us a chance by staying with us again to show you that your unsatisfactory stay was an exceptio

Pros- Great location for the zoo, taxis and buses into the city centre, friendly staff, bedding and towels were spotless, food was nice. Cons- The rooms are dated, walls scuffed and carpets grubby. Bathroom had been cleaned but had lots of rusted parts and limescale, toilet seat didn't fit the toilet, grubby, dated shower curtain and shower head, bath was marked all over due to age, sofa bed was old and noisy at every move, beds were okay but two doubles pushed together so there was a rather uncomfortable bit in the middle and the sheets didn't fit to the edges of the mattress, tv was old and had a handful of channels. The room certainly didn't reflect the price we paid. The reception and dining area are modern, fresh and clean but the rooms are nothing like those areas, the corridor had empty pizza boxes stashed outside of rooms. The smoking area was under our room so if you wanted the window open there was just cigarette fumes and no fresh air. It did us for one night but we wouldn't stay again, as it is now.

Great hotel as a base for arriving from airport and exploring the city and vicinity. We literally slept there as were out exploring most of the time of our stay so don't have too many comments to make. As many others have said the bar/reception/dining area is very nice and modern with great views. Sadly the revamp seems to stop there and the corridors and bedrooms are crying out for some modernisation/tlc. The beds were comfortable enough, but just the simple things like the doors to each corridor being wiped down every day (very grubby) Again a bath with pull along shower curtain seems very dated these days. The carpets appear to be very old and the musty smell hits you once you leave the lift. We only had a cleaner once during our 3 night stay which meant rubbish wasn't taken from the bins and the tea tray wasn't replenished. I was very disappointed with the Spirit Leisure club - having booked a late evening slot we arrived to find it packed and no-one was checking numbers. Again the changing rooms were very tired and looked grubby as did the spa area. All these things aside, we found all the staff to be very welcoming, hardworking and helpful. I hope Holiday Inn will take all these reviews on-board and invest in a very popular hotel to improve it and ensure it gets the credit it deserves as it has the potential to be so much better.

Stayed two nights recently. Booked due to being near the zoo and having parking. Staff we spoke to was friendly. Room was ok, double bed, single bed and a sofa for 3 adults and a child. Single bed and sofa very uncomfortable. Ate at the restaurant one evening found it very expensive. Over £100 for 4 burger meals (one being a chicken burger) one starter of chicken wings. 4 Pepsis and 2 fruit shoots. It mentions kids eat free but they have to chose from the buffet. Was cheaper eating more food with beers at Gordon Ramsays bread street kitchen. Decided to try breakfast due to going to the zoo and again found it expensive although there is plenty options to pick from. Unable to use pool due to needing to be booked prior to going and all slots morning and evening were gone.

Upon checking in, the staff were lovely. Despite it being the start of a busy bank holiday weekend, we didn’t have to wait the staff at the front desk were informative and polite. The hotel itself is in need of renovation work. Whilst the reception and bar area are pleasant, the corridors are tatty and outdated. At the bar area there is also Starbucks coffee which was nice. The room had been modernised slightly but was in need of further work. The main light didn’t work. The tea tray was below average also. I was pleasantly surprised by the bathroom though, this was modern and very clean and the shower was great. The rest of the bedroom wasn’t particularly clean - there were crumbs of food and bits of plastic on the carpet and there were some stains on the bed linen. The room wasn’t loud or noisy at night and despite our room overlooking the car park for the zoo, it wasn’t loud. Use of the health club facilities was also included in the price but we didn’t use these, however it did seem good value for money. The transport links to the city were great - multiple buses stop directly outside the hotel and it was around a 15 minute ride to Princes Street. The hotel was average and probably about what I would expect for the money, although the cleanliness level isn’t excusable.
