I booked 2 rooms here for a family visit to Edinburgh and we had a very enjoyable stay. The rooms were very spacious and spotless. Each room had a small but very adequate kitchenette with a kettle, microwave, sink, fridge and a dishwasher. An iron...More
Lovely hotel, everything you need in the room, starbucks downstairs and a good breakfast choice. Would stay here again. Sainsburys just around the corner as well as a few Cafe's. Just a short walk to the Royal Mile, Castle etc but far enough out of...More
Hotel room was great - large with comfortable bed and adequate breakfast. Location appears a bit out of the way but Edinburgh is so compact nothing was not a lovely interesting walk away. No complaints at all with hotel - good service, unobtrusive housekeeping. BUT...More
The hotel was nice, clean and in a great location. I was disappointed to find that there was no room service available and that the "store located in the lobby" that they advertise is actually a little grocery store at the back of the building....More

Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking
Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.

I would say about a 20/25 minute walk. We took that route last year when travelling to a Festival event. If you come out of the Hotel and walk down to the Meadows, turn right as soon as you enter and walk through to the A700, cross to Bruntsfield Links then left onto Bruntsfield Place then right onto Collinton Road where the campus is.

The main Christmas markets are in East Princes Street Gardens and George Street. Hard Rock is also in George Street. To be honest they are not particularly close to the hotel and would be a good 15/20minute walk with hills. However, there are bound to be other markets, especially in the Grassmarket area which is quite near. For the other you will need to walk from the hotel down George 1V Bridge, Over The Mound To Princes Street then up into the New Town where George Street is situated.
