A very comfortable and clean hotel. Staff is excellent, friendly and very helpful. Location is great and within walking distance to the Royal Mile. Close to a lot of pubs and shopping. We stayed for 5 nights and would stay there again without hesitation.

We recently had a wonderful stay at the Residence Inn. The hotel feels fresh and new with great facilities and rooms. The kitchenette and view of the castle from the balcony was an added bonus! Within the hotel, the staff are very helpful, the gym facilities are small but in great condition and the breakfast provided was absolutely delicious. Our...

I have stayed in the Residence Inn for almost a month and it was home away from home. The main reason was the staff. I have had few issues at the start, which were all duly and politely noted and resolved within few days. The reason why I highlight this aspect is how the staff took personal ownership and interest...

Nice stay at this hotel shame about the weather lol . Lovely room inc amazing shower which was very invigorating. Couple of small improvements which could be made. The breakfast was nice except there were no cooked mushrooms or tomatoes for the fried breakfast. Second day was no potato hash browns which was disappointing. Only gripe about the room was...

Hard to find. Parking nearby, but not on property. Spacious rooms with all the amenities. Near the Royal Mile, major attractions, restaurants and nightlife. Friendly, responsive staff. Washer/dryer available. Recommended place to stay when visiting Edinburgh.

The location of Residence Inn Edinburgh is great! It was a doable walk from Waverly, even in the rain and near many good pubs and things to see. However, it has a room card activated light switch feature no one told us about but we didn't use the bathroom light switch at night as it would have lit up the...

Dear Ms Alison H, Thank you for choosing the Residence Inn by Marriott for your recent stay. It is regrettable to hear you found our beds to be uncomfortable. I have spoken to our maintenance manager to start the process of restoring the bathroom ceiling to its original state. I would like to apologise that we fell short of your...

We spent 10 nights in room 308 during Christmas and Hogmanay. We stayed in a king bed 1 bedroom. suite that had 2 banks of windows overlooking the courtyard shared by the hotel with the office building next door. The location of the hotel is great for visiting Edinburgh. Old Town is a 10 minute walk away and New Town...

Spacious and clean rooms, very helpful staff, fantastic location. Everything you could want for in accommodation. Kitchenette has all utensils and room is well heated. Also has laundry facilities which came in handy. Will definitely stay here again if back in Edinburgh.

The location was perfect for us- it is located in a really nice area and within walking distance of the centre of Edinburgh. The room was really large, bed was comfy, wifi was good, kitchen was compact but all we needed and everything was really clean. The only problem we had was the parking validation. On both occassions the validation...

I booked the hotel as it said it was a short 15 minute walk from the train station however this is not true if you are lugging suitcases behind you. It was very difficult to walk there with the bags as it's very hilly in the city and took us over 25 mins to get there. The hotel is like...

Management response:

Dear Julia M. Thank you for your recent feedback following your arrival to the hotel. It is deeply regrettable that you did not like the décor of the rooms, however we do find that the style of our rooms is appealing to guests as it is considered refreshing and modern. The walk from the train station to the hotel is...

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
