A very modern hotel about 5-10 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh. We received a very warm welcome from Paul on the front desk who looked after us well and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spacious and clean with a small kitchen and good sized shower. The bed was really comfortable too. We were on the 7th... More

Stayed here for one night recently whilst doing "Edinburgh's Christmas". Our room was on the 7th floor and had a balcony from which you could see the castle. Very nice bright room and spotless. The kitchen area would be great if staying longer and you wanted to cook your own stuff in the microwave. Great power shower in the bathroom... More

We recently stayed at the Residence Inn. I cannot fault this stay. The staff were helpful and polite, the room was spotless and the breakfast was delicious! The hotel was close to Edinburgh Old Town and was a short taxi journey into the main shopping area or around a 15 min We will return to this hotel again. I will... More

Stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. This is very different than you would expect from a Residence Inn if you use those properties in the U.S. This is a very nice, modern hotel with a nice small bar and very nice modern rooms. They really are so much nicer than you would get in U.S. Was a shame... More

At first, I had booked a little flat via Airbnb, but decided at the last moment to stay at this hotel, and I am so glad that I did. Our room was a one bedroom suite, with plenty of space for us to unwind and spread out after the abundant sightseeing we had done. There is a great complimentary breakfast,... More

I admit having stayed many times in the city of Edinburgh, in some of the more expensive hotels, I was not expecting much from what I thought was more a business persons hotel than a vacationing hotel. I was pleasantly surprised. From the moment I was greeted by Paul at the front desk to the moment I checked out I... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
