We were quite pleased with our stay here. It is new so it's not on GPS systems yet and that made it extremely challenging to find. Thankfully, Scots are friendly and helped us find it. But since it's new it also meant that the rooms...More
The location is excellent, if a little hard to find. The rooms are modern, with microwave, fridge, and even a dishwasher.
No AC, though. A big deal? Well, you can crack open a window about an inch...but being next to a college, you'd better like...More
Stayed here with my parents for 12 days. The room was spacious with 2 queen beds, a 3-seater sofa (with a chaise lounger), a writing table, an ensuite bath & toilet, and a fully equipped wardobe (iron and ironing board) and a well equipped kitchenette....More
We are Marriott Rewards members and we were not let down. We love the experience that we get from Marriott and this was no different. The staff was amazing to check us in, get us cabs, book dinner reservations. We loved the breakfast every morning!...More
I am a Marriott member and this was a great hotel. The location was excellent- near restaurants, town, castle. Staff were wonderful. Breakfast was excellent with many choices. It is near the University so many things going on. Highly recommend.

Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking
Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.

I would say about a 20/25 minute walk. We took that route last year when travelling to a Festival event. If you come out of the Hotel and walk down to the Meadows, turn right as soon as you enter and walk through to the A700, cross to Bruntsfield Links then left onto Bruntsfield Place then right onto Collinton Road where the campus is.

The main Christmas markets are in East Princes Street Gardens and George Street. Hard Rock is also in George Street. To be honest they are not particularly close to the hotel and would be a good 15/20minute walk with hills. However, there are bound to be other markets, especially in the Grassmarket area which is quite near. For the other you will need to walk from the hotel down George 1V Bridge, Over The Mound To Princes Street then up into the New Town where George Street is situated.
