Without doubt, one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in. From start to finish we were treated like friends by the owners and reception staff. Daniel the reception manager was warm and friendly and made us feel so welcome, he is ably assisted by Louise his lovely dog.
This boat hotel is fairly new and has been totally refurbished throughout, the attention to detail is quite fantastic, it has an Art Nouveau style that gives a sense of the roaring twenties.
The owners Alan and Nadia are equally warm and friendly, so easy to talk to and treat you like old friends.
Please try for yourselves, most people who visit Edinburgh will stay close to the centre, Leith is only a 10 to 15 minute bus ride away costing around ÂŁ1.80 on the bus, taxi about a tenner.
Plenty of bars and eateries on the shore where you can keep an eye on the Ocean Mist.
Speaking of bars, the ship has its own, and also have themselves a wonderful cocktail maker in Marco. Loved the exquisitely decorated bar.
Would go back without hesitation and fully recommend it !!

I had heard about the Ocean Mist through a friend, her husband had taken part in the restoration leading up to 2019. When Covid started he had to leave as per the world shutdown.
I booked the Joseph Hobbs Suite, it was an Anniversary surprise for my partner, she had no idea where we were staying. On arrival Gordon was at reception, such a lovely welcome and giving us details about breakfast, bar upstairs and answered all our questions.

On entering our suite my partner was speechless, bunting with hearts were above the bed, lovely towels in the shape of small swans. Even a token for two drinks to be used at the bar. Everything was spotless, ample sockets, bottled water, top class toiletries, and the free standing copper bath was the show piece. The style was like 1920's, every bit of space has been utilised and the standards were top notch. There is an area glassed off where you can see some of the Engine components, plenty information on the boat of the boat is available too.

Breakfast was a continental style, but loads of choices and as much as you want, If the weather was hotter we would have sat outside but hopefully do that next time. Fresh Milk is at hand on request from reception for your bedroom tea/coffee facilities. There is no restaurant on board but you are minutes away from lots and plenty bars all within easy walking distance. A bus stop nearby gets you into the city (no16) or even a tram service is there too. We stayed three nights as I knew one wouldn't be enough, and I certainly made the right decision.

All the staff are very friendly, Gordon, Tony, Rachael, Bar Staff, and got chatting you a member of the Housekeeping Team, Fatima. If you are looking for something different, lots of class, and to either explore, chill, please give it a go. Coming back to our suite was superb after being out, there is great Wi-Fi, but no TV or Fridge. We took the laptop and a cool bag to get by, but it all depends on everyone’s needs and what you want.
Thanks to everyone at The Ocean Mist, and we will be back soon to have another fantastic stay.

Located in Leith with plenty of restaurants in the local area plus easy access into Edinburgh on the tram - my first time on a modern tram! The boat is very nicely done out and everything is still quite new and all in the theme of the 1920's, an era that I love. I just wanted Poirot to pop aboard!

We had a couple of nights aboard and our room was the Steerage Flat at the front of the boat, closest to the water! I was a little worried about the tiny portholes for windows but I did soon get accustomed and I think the extra space in the room helped. The ensuite was beautiful and the all important shower was fabulous (although a door to keep the water inside the shower tray & not on the floor may be something the owners might want to look at but this was not detrimental to our stay).

The bar area is really cosy and as the sun did come out a little for us we got to spend some time on the deck with a cuppa too. A great place to sit and watch the street scene.

We did miss the usual opportunity for a cooked breakfast whilst away, however, there is lots on offer including fresh fruit, pastries, toast, cereals etc and our hostess in the mornings, Toni, with her lovely cheery nature made breakfast for us, as she really looked after our needs.

When in Leith again, we would not hesitate to stay on the Ocean Mist.

We had a fantastic one night stay at the Ocean Mist for my birthday. We have stayed in lots of places in Edinburgh and I have to say this is my favourite to date. I loved all the quirky wee touches like the Tunnocks teacakes at reception!
Room and bathroom were lovely. Nice Arran Aromatics toiletries in bathroom together with supersoft towels and bathrobes. No rubbish UHT milk - you can pick up little bottles of fresh milk from reception or they will bring it to you. There are coffee bags available in the room too - better than instant!
Staff from reception to bar to breakfast in the morning were uniformly lovely. The wee bar on board is really beautiful. We had a couple of cocktails in there on arrival. We sat inside as it was a wee bit chilly but there was an outside deck which would be great on a sunny day.
A continental breakfast is included in the room stay. This is served in the bar area and there is a wee adjacent sitting room too. There was a good selection of different breads, crumpets, croissants etc as well as yoghurt, fruit, juice, ham and cheese. The crew bring you tea or coffee.
If you are looking for somewhere a wee bit different I would definitely recommend staying here. We are already planning to go back!

Hi Gretel616, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a fantastic review! We are absolutely thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your birthday stay with us at Ocean Mist and that it's your favorite place you've stayed in Edinburgh so far! We put a lot of love into the quirky touches, and we're so glad you loved the Tunnocks teacakes at reception. We appreciate you mentioning the little details in the room - the Arran Aromatics toiletries, plush towels and bathrobes, and of course, the fresh milk and proper coffee! We strive to provide a comfortable and luxurious experience onboard, and it sounds like we succeeded. We're also delighted to hear that you enjoyed the bar and the friendly service from our entire crew. The wee bar really is a special place, especially on a sunny day when you can enjoy the outside deck. A continental breakfast with a good selection is exactly what we aim for, and we're happy you found it satisfying. We love that you're already planning your next stay with us - that truly makes our day! Welcome back anytime! Warmly, Matt, duty manager

If Carlsberg built hotels this is how they would do it !!!

This hotel is probably the finest hotel in the uk i have ever been in and ive done many !!

Simply exquisite

No detail is missed in the rooms or the public areas

Breakfast is truly sublime with every healthy edible thing you could ask for.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff either who were all helpful and pleasant

Slightly dearer than the plastic hotel chains but worth every penny.

I met a lovely couple on my departure outside and we got chatting. Little did i know it was the couple who bought it built it and own it. What an amazing humble couple they were. Nothing mattered to them more than customers happiness.

Definitely will return

Absolutely faultless.

I must admit, this is possibly one of the first reviews I’ve left where there’s not a single thing I could fault.

We checked in online the night prior. I had mentioned that we’d be arriving early and asked for a call IF the room was ready early with no grudges if it wasn’t. Check in was 3.30pm however we received a call not long after 12 saying the room had been cleaned and was ready for us.

As soon as you walk in through the front door you’re blown away instantly. Clean. Authentic. Friendly.

We stayed in the largest suite and it was worth every penny. The room was large, clean, well thought out and the bath was the perfect touch.

We also had drinks in the bar. A little pricey but you don’t mind it because of the location.

We tend to try somewhere different each time we visit Edinburgh but I think I’ve found my regular accommodation

Just spent a few days in Edinburgh staying on the Ocean Mist, what a find, on arrival not sure what to expect but it was quite obvious on checking in that we were going to be well looked after. The cabin we were allocated was spacious with a king sized bed the bathroom had a large walk in shower with high class hand wash, shampoo and conditioner, large bath towels and soft dressing gowns. The board was bed and continental breakfast which was 5 star. There are only 17 cabins and I am aware that they are not all the same size so if you book it is worth the extra cost for one of the large cabins.
Lovely bar area where we finished off long days of sightseeing with a couple of nips of good single malt.
Next time we go up to Edinburgh we will certainly be booking to stay on the Ocean Mist and will be recommending it to all our friends
Thank you to all the staff (crew) for making our stay a time to remember.

I absolutely loved everything about out stay at the Ocean Mist! The hotel is quirky, but absolutely charming. It’s a luxury, vintage yacht. Our room leaned a little, but the details were impeccable, from cork covered walls & hardwood trip, to a beautiful tiled bathroom. Every amenities you could wish for was included in the room (coffee/tea pot, safe, robes, shampoos and soaps) . The service was completely 5 stars. From check in to staff to bar staff, everyone was friendly, beyond efficient, the highest level of detail. I’m very sorry we booked just one night. I am completely in love love with level of service we received on our trip. We will definitely be back!

We stayed one night with our two teenage girls so 2 rooms for the 4 of us. The Ocean Mist is just a few minutes walk from the tram stop.
The hotel/ boat is really clean and really beautiful and quirky. The bathrooms were spotless and had shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in each room along with 2 fluffy bathrobes. The rooms also had hairdryers, water and tea/ coffee facilities and reception would provide fresh milk rather than the usual UHT.
The bed and the pillows were very comfy and I would go as far as to say probably the comfiest bed I have ever slept on in a hotel. 10/10. We all said the beds and pillows were great.
Towels were good and for the first time ever, a proper bin in the bathroom instead of those wee round things that don’t open when you press the pedal. A small thing but that was pretty much like the entire stay - attention to detail.
The bar was top class with a lovely setting. We sat in the lounge area as we had under 18’s with us but the service was fantastic. Great music, lovely choice of wine, wee bar snacks and water provided.
The lounge had a cupboard of games which was a great addition.
I didn’t feel the boat move at all and it was quite blowy out. I did hear water lapping but no movement.
There are 2 sittings for breakfast which I liked and the choice was great. Juices, lovely tea and coffee along with fruit, cheese, pastries, bread, eggs, porridge and cereal so really something for everyone. It was a continental style brekkie but everything was very fresh and top quality.
All the staff were lovely, helpful and very cheery.
I have given top marks for this hotel as it was really clean, lovely and quirky, great staff and fantastic attention to detail. We all said it was an excellent stay and would definitely stay again.

Hi GGHoneypop, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a fantastic review of your stay on the Ocean Mist! We're thrilled to hear that you and your family, including the teenagers, had a brilliant time. It sounds like the location was perfect, just a short walk from the tram stop. We're also delighted you found the boatel itself clean, beautiful, and quirky – that's exactly the atmosphere we strive for! We appreciate you mentioning the little details, from the fluffy bathrobes to the proper bins in the bathrooms. It's these touches that make all the difference, and we're happy they didn't go unnoticed. We're especially pleased to hear you all rated the beds and pillows a 10/10 – that's some of the highest praise we can get! A comfortable night's sleep is essential, and we're glad we delivered. The bar sounds like it was a hit as well, with a great atmosphere, friendly service, and a nice selection of drinks and snacks. We're glad the game cupboard in the lounge came in handy too! And of course, breakfast is an important part of any stay. We're happy you enjoyed the fresh, high-quality continental breakfast spread and the option of two different sittings. Finally, your kind words about our staff truly mean a lot. We take pride in having a lovely, helpful, and cheery team, so it's wonderful to hear they made a positive impression. Thank you again for choosing the Ocean Mist and for recommending us to others. We would love to welcome you back aboard any time! Sincerely, Matt, duty manager.
