Average old hotel, away from the main road, which is both good and bad. Breakfast and overall service was ok. Unfortunately our stay was spoiled because of our room, which was dark, creaky, and in separate wing from our other family members. My wife had disturbed sleep for entire stay. We stayed for 5 nights, and every day we requested for our room to be changed. Very surprising that a 100 room hotel was unable to find us an alternate room in 5 nights. There were daily checkouts and new checkins, surely our request could have been accommodated!

We stayed here for our anniversary weekend after a nightmare in another hotel in Edinburgh that we had to check-out of shortly after arriving. After quite a frantic hour or so of searching for nearby hotels, we finally rang the Crown Plaza - Royal Terrace to see if they had a room to accommodate us and our two young children. Amy who answered the phone was lovely and couldn't have been more helpful. We ended up taking their Premier King room and staying for 3 nights in a lovely room on the back of the building overlooking the garden/grounds. The room was lovely and clean, very quiet and a good size with nice original features. The food was great with plenty of choice and the staff were very friendly throughout our stay, especially Amy for the front of house team and the bar manager. Its located in a great place close to the palace and some great independent restaurants just around the corner. There's even on street parking right outside, which is unique for Edinburgh. We would most definitely consider returning to this hotel for future visits to Edinburgh and we would highly recommend it to others. …

The staff was helpful,friendly and polite.Check in and out was fast and easy.The girl at the reception upgraded my room as I was platinium member.The room was mach better than expected(no 110).It was very big ,bright and spacious with lovely high ceilings.The city was approx.12 min.Breakfast had fairly good chocice.There was a small gym as well. Overall.it was very good value for money.

All what is left of this place is past glory. The rooms are old-school, but not in the “fancy hotel of the previous century” way - it’s just creepy. Many comments here talk about small rooms. Ours was too big for the furniture that was in it. Unsettling almost. The thing that bothered me most was noise. All night long we heard squealing pipes and buzzing sounds in our room. This is a rather expensive hotel, but even a cheap one should try to offer restful nights. I personally liked the breakfast. It’s true that only scrambled eggs are served at the buffet, but you can ask for fried, poached, … as well. The staff was friendly. No complaints about the hygiene either. I would however not recommend this place.

From the outside & reception area it looks like a really grand hotel. However lols can be deceiving. Our room was very small. Not enough space to put the suitcases area & out of site. The rooms air con was extremely loud, but much needed because the room was like an oven. The bathroom, although clean, was never quite. Even flushing the toilet (which didn’t always work) put the extremely loud fan on. Breakfast was very disappointing. I wish we’d not upgraded & just home to the local cafe. No choice of eggs other than powdered ones & no vegetarian options. Wont be booking a crown plaza again.

We had a four night stay at the Crowne Plaza. Our room was in the basement, plenty big with a walk in wardrobe, great for hiding the mess we made. Comfortable beds, warm duvets and really high pillows. Tea and Coffee making facilities were good. biscuits and bottled water replenished as needed. The bathroom was standard. Plenty of everything that you would expect to find in any good hotel. Breakfast was ok quite edible but I would have expected a higher quality of presentation. Some items were not available each day even though we were in plenty of time for breakfast and not rushing in at the last minute. The staff that we met and spoke to in the hotel were friendly and helpful at all times, no matter the time. There are staff shortages in many industries at present so some of the problems were understandable, its difficult recruiting good staff. The room itself was very comfortable, location was great. However, the huge lack of staff made the stay frustrating. Breakfast was a shambles with one poor waitress trying to do everything. The ‘manager’ at the desk welcoming desk seemed to have no managerial skills. There was a lack of mugs for tea, glasses for juice, you’d then get a mug to find there were no tea bags. Then the food wasn’t replenished. People were waiting a long time for everything! We also had a problem with our en-suite where there was an awful smell coming up through the drains. This developed overnight but luckily we were checking out. So disappointing, a lot of money for service you get.

The hotel is housed in a period building, not far from the shopping centre, but in a quiet and pleasant road. It is about a 10 minute uphill walk from the nearest car park. Our room was on the top floor with sloping ceilings, but good views from the windows towards the Firth of the Forth. ( It would have been better if the windows had been clean ). I was pleased that the room had a shower over a bath. The staff were pleasant. The main negative was that the breakfast room was very cold and the coffee machine was broken for the first two days of our stay.

Lovely 2 night stay at this hotel. Good breakfast, plenty of choice. Had an evening meal in the restaurant, good food, would definitely recommend the battered fish! Large room with a lovely view of the garden, Staff very pleasant and helpful. Would certainly book again if visiting that area in the future

Stayed in Crowne plaza for two nights. It was amazing. Staff were so friendly and so helpful. A new staff member checked us in and did a great job. Gave us an amazing room so clean and bed was so comfy. Really quiet at night so felt very rested. Edinburgh is a gorgeous city and would definitely recommend staying in crowne plaza
