The castle is in a fantastic location and a great place to stay to explore the Old Town. It is in easy walking distance to all attractions and great restaurants and shops. The kids loved the pool and the family suite was excellent with wonderful castle views. The only downside was that we were on the first floor over the...

Hotel in a great location for all attractions. The view from our room on 5th floor of castle was lovely. We didn't eat in hotel but loads of cafes and pubs nearby. The room was clean but looked a little tired.

Had a lovely stay with friends over Easter weekend. Rooms clean, quiet and comfortable, very peaceful spot considering you're in the centre of Edinburgh. Convenient for the old town. Lovely helpful staff. Would stay here again

I traveled alone to spend time with my college age son who is studying abroad. The first room had only 1 bed and they immediately changed me to a room with double beds when I explained my situation. Rooms and beds were very comfortable and soundproof. No complaints.

You could not be in a more central location. However, they hotel has seen better days. Upkeep is just OK and they appear to be catering to bus tour groups. The room looked as if it had been repainted fairly recently and they clean as best they can but rugs, chairs etc. are generally worn and desperately in need of...

Would like to start of saying this hotel has one of the nicest views of the castle. The rooms were alright, even with the upgrade though the room lacked some particular comforts. I wouldn't consider this a four star hotel but a strong 3 stars. Here are some pros and cons to sum it up: +Nicest views of the castle...

We had a great stay with the quad room being a nice size and the beds were comfy. The evening meal was really good in Tony singh's restaurant and the service was excellent. The only small issue we had was with breakfast and the chefs definition of crispy bacon as hardly any of the fat was rendered down.

Room wasn't ready at 15:00; got vouchers for drinks at the bar. Were told one room would be ready in 5', the other one in an hour; they were booth ready after 20'. One room had dirty sheets. They were changed, nobody appologized for the inconvenience. Couldn't enjoy the view trough dirty windows. Housekeeping waked us at 8:15 wanting to...

Very good service, nice and varied breakfasts, great rooms. Fantastic location. Expensive in my opinion. Small gym. Not convinced about the Tony Singh restaurant, although the food is good, it has no atmosphere.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
