Good location, very friendly staff. Close to the National museum. We didn't get much sleep though due to thin walls and bad pillows. We were so tired the next day after not sleeping that we just felt drained and wanted to go home. Bathrooms were great, clean with great showers. Also great little pool and sauna. But again, most importantly...

We had a deluxe room which was great overlooking the castle. Nice big bed and lovely big bath. Thr hotel is in a really good location with plenty of restaurants nearby. Breakfast was good but expensive at £15.50 for a full cooked breakfast. Reception staff were really friendly and helpful. The only criticism is the food served in the restaurant...

Stayed for 3 nights in the hotel. Great view of the castle from the room. Room was very clean, beds were comfortable and lovely pullows! Made use of the pool and sauna which were both lovely and very quiet. Staff were helpful and friendly. Was a bit noisy at night from the street below.

We stayed here for our golden wedding celebration and had an excellent room overlooking the castle. Staff were really helpful and sent a complimentary bottle of wine when they found out we were celebrating our 50th anniversary Hotel is in a good position to explore this wonderful city The only drawback was the food - breakfast was acceptable but overpriced...

The hotel has a great location for exploring the old town. It is only a short uphill walk to the Royal Mile. The rooms were very clean and spacious and we had a side view of the castle. Staff were very polite and helpful. Only downsides why it isn't a 5 rating is the £12 a day for parking and...

Great hotel, rooms first class and excellent location. We had upgraded room as it was my wife's 50th birthday. Location was splendid for bars, restaurants and only 275 steps up to the castle! W'd look to book again on our next visit.

This hotel is in an excellent location and the views of the castle from our room were stunning. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. There are lots of quaint pubs in the vicinity . You could not get a better base for your sightseeing trip to Edinburgh. All the major tourist attractions are within walking distance of the hotel....

This is a great location with fantastic views of the castle in certain rooms. Rooms are good and clean but bathroom was a bit tired looking and could do with a spruce up. Good facilities in close proximity.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
