Just spent two nights in this hotel and was very pleased with the accommodation and the staff. Accommodation was very comfortable, clean, and well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Staff were very helpful, polite and went out of their way to make it a pleasant stay. Will definitely be back x

This hotel was really great, if I'm ever in Edinburgh again I will definitely stay here. When travelling for work room service is normally what I go for and it was so so good, broccoli soup for starter and flat iron steak for my main. My room was on the top floor and I had an amazing view of the...

The hotel was in an excellent location, down grassmarket street, full of places to eat and drink and close to lots of great areas in the city. The view from our room was simply amazing - looking right out at the castle! Unfortunately everything else about the hotel was disappointing. The room was incredibly small (we booked a deluxe which...

This hotel is situated in a very good area. Grassmarket is full of history and I booked it to be near the EICC where I attended the Standard Life AGM. Hotel has excellent staff very efficient pandering to all my needs and thanks to Alex the Handyman who fixed a new TV in room 4055 plus mending faulty catch on...

It was the weekend of the Euro cup rugby finals and Edinburgh was the venue. Needless to say all the hotels were fully booked. I had to for those two days move out of the hotel I was staying in and move into the Grassmarket Apex. There are two Apex hotels along the same road and that caused a bit...

We visited Edinburgh for a weekend city break for my partners birthday. We very gratefully accepted a complimentary upgrade to a castle view room complete with balcony. Also love the Apex Ellis toiletries as standard. Room was beautifully clean and well appointed. Right in the heart of the grassmarket. This is a great central spot for exploring, eating and drinking....

Everything about this hotel was good apart from the evening meal which was poor value for money, limited menu and not to our taste. There are, however excellent options all around Grassmarket. Breakfast however was really good. Overall this hotel was excellent and I can recommend it.

A business trip so not fair to comment on the various things I didn't use (such as the pool) but overall the stay was enjoyable and created no problems. Staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast choices good. Location convenient for whatever nightlife you prefer.

There would be nothing wrong with this hotel,....... if they sorted out the management. There are lots of staff..and they were all very friendly and willing, But there seems to be something wrong at management level. The room was clean and quiet, apart from the staff who gathered outside the room at 7am laughing and talking, and tried to enter...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
