Hi Stephanie Thank you for your review. We are sorry we where not able to open the window more than the recommended level . This is to avoid possible accidents happening that have occurred in the past . Guests can sometimes put bottles on the window ledge that have fallen into the street below. Some other hostels in Edinburgh have...

Budget backpackers was clean, comfortable and a perfect location. The breakfast was affordable and tasty. They offered free walking tours and pub crawls, which we didn't use but would have been fun. Everyone was super friendly. The hostel felt very safe, we stayed in a private room with a bunk bed, double bed on the bottom and single bed on...

I had never imagined that a hostel could be that fun! The staff was always cheerful, helpful and simply awesome! The rooms were clean at all times, and so did the rest of the hostel! If you are travelling alone (as I did), there is a great opportunity to meet new people in the common room, the cafeteria, during the...

Awesome hostel close to the royal mile and the Edinburgh castle. Freshly prepared breakfast for cheap and fresh wraps and paninis for lunch. The twin room was big with lots of space and was really clean. The beds were good as well. The shower was good. The common room was amazing with loads of couches and crazy spaces to sit...

Great hostel. Lot of people staying there when I was there. Things kept breaking. They kept fixing the things. Good music in reception. Good kitchen at the end of the labyrinth that is the second floor. Hairs in the shower. HAIRS. Free walking tour was great: SEX. MURDER. DOGS. Mysterious lack of shower in my room but loads of showers...

I stayed in this hostel with three other friends. The staff are nice and helpful. They organise trips and nights out which were very good. The rooms are very clean as well as the toilets. I was recommended to stay here by a friend and I would also carry on recommending this place. It's great value and I LOVE the...

While I have stayed in many hostels, this is the first one that left me actually regretting it. Firstly, the girl at the front desk checking us in was more interested in chatting to her coworker than to us. After tossing our sheets and key on the counter and hastily mumbling through instructions, she wandered off. The following morning, upon...

the hostel that I have been a couple of days is really well located near the train station and several amenities. It is very clean and colourful. The only negative aspect that I would like to point is perhaps the lack of toilets. There is only one per floor with only two shower. However they look quite clean and checked...

Very friendly staff (except for the girl who was at the bar on the morning of August 25th, she looked like it was literally a pain to be there), ideally located, reasonable prices, and quite clean (there is room for some improvement but overall more than okay). The food in the pub is cheaper than what you can find in...

Firstly it took half an hour to checkin when there was only 3 other people waiting. The staff were very friendly but take sarcasm and trying to be funny a bit far to the point where it is annoying, especially when its raining and you've just gotten off a flight and just want to check in. Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
