We arrived very early in the day. Nonetheless the welcome was efficient and engaging. We had checked in online which was worth the effort. Our bags were looked after and we waited in the lobby for our family members to arrive. The hotel was obviously busy but we were able to sit in the lobby and than join family for...

I've found with this Novotel, and others, you can come to expect a standard across their rooms, service, and food offerings. Everything is clean, staff are polite, rooms are very spacious and their breakfast offerings are amazing (I look forward to them over other hotel chains).

We'd booked our works Christmas lunch here as it was close and came highly recommended, Christmas lunch consisted of a buffet at £15 a head very reasonable. when we arrived there was no one around but a table set out for our party so we took our seats. Disappointment 1) waited and waited and waited, after about 20 mins a...

Lovely hotel! We had a great nights sleep! The pool is tiny and breakfast was a little disappointing- we struggled to find food we liked! The hotel staff were welcoming and very friendly. We would definitely go again!

The location of this room is excellent, being a short distance from the castle, Princes St and Grassmarket. We booked to accommodate a family of four and were provided an executive room. However, the room was tiny with the expectation that 2 children sleep on a single bed. After complaining for the 3rd time we were moved to an alternative...

Perfectly adequate for a short stay. Ideally placed as others have mentioned for the main sights. Good service in the dining area. Excellent choice for buffet breakfast. Clean bedroom etc etc. The hotel is dog friendly and the Meadows Park is just a two minute walk away for those important first thing and last thing walks before heading out for...

Stayed for three nights over new year. Ideal location to walk to and from all the tourist attractions. Room was clean and comfortable, could do with some tlc, it was a little dated, however it was fine for what we needed. The only down side was the lack of staff on reception, a long wait for the code for the...

Modern hotel situated just South West of the Castle - 10-15 mins walk from most of Edinburgh's central attractions. Fairly trendy decor in the communal areas, with spacious rooms that you'll instantly recognise if you are a regular at Novotels. The hotel has limited underground parking on site (15-20 spaces) available on a first come first served basis, and also...

The hotel was a great choice. We have a large family of 10 and this place was the perfect choice. The staff was great. Any glitches were fixed immediately. I would absolutely come back. Even more perfect if you have business at the Quartermile.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
