One of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Attention to detail second to none. Service from staff superb. Location is great, 5 minute walk to princess street, 30 mins to royal mile. Will definitely return.

So this hotel already has a lot going for it being situated in one of the world's most beautiful cities, Edinburgh. But it's then located in one of the most beautiful areas of the city. Found in rows of stunning Georgian town houses in the West End, the location is perfect, just far enough away that you feel you are...

This place just rocks! My son and I were in the UK for his spring break and we spent 3 nights in Edinburgh. Lovely room, but it was really the staff and the little touches that just added up. We had as much or as little service as we wanted and everything just worked. The staff was superb. I will...

My daughter and her boyfriend have just treated me to a stay at the Chester Residence. Wow! This place is utterly brilliant. From the superb decor to the incredibly helpful staff I could not in all my experience of hotels find one to rival it.

We experienced excellent service and had a lovely, luxurious stay at the Chester in Edinburgh. We had booked a slightly upgraded flat and it was HUGE and comfortable. We had dinner there one night, as well as the great welcome snacks for lunch and breakfast throughout our 3 night stay. I ended up coming down with a bad cold during...

We have just had 3 nights in 9/3 (Grand apartment). We stayed last year and loved it and we were back for more. The apartment had been upgraded in the last year and loved the changes. Once again friendly staff that are only too happy to help. Accommodation is amazing and very relaxing. Breakfast is delicious and very fresh. We...

We stayed in the owners residence which was superb, the accommodation and service was first class and their attention to detail was fantastic. Absolutely sublime! For our first trip to Edinburgh we decided to push the boat out and this was the epitome of excellence. Everything was to the highest standard - the staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful; the room was spacious enough for ten of us, let alone just the two; and we had the best night's sleep we've had in...

What a fantastic flat. Had booked dinner at a nearby hotel but they had no rooms available. Tried the Chester Residence and really pleased that we did. Huge lounge, great bathroom and kitchen. Quality of the accommodation was superb with high quality fittings. Staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Cannot rate highly enough and far better value/quality/space than the five star...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

“As this is Georgian Edinburgh, the ceilings are hugely high - so this means long staircases. You might prefer a ground-level apartment.”
