We have stayed in many 5 star apartments and hotels and this stands out from the crowd.

The location is perfect - a short walk away from all the main sights in central Edinburgh (although if you don't like stairs, be warned there are a few to negotiate up and down to the High Street / town).

Our 1 bed apartment with separate "nook/cubby room" for our child was divine and much bigger than we expected. There was an excellently equipped kitchen with high quality appliances which had a small dining table/chairs for 4/5, a good sized lounge area, 2 bathrooms (1 with bath & shower, the other shower), Qlargeueen sized bedroom with built in robes.

Everything was top quality, beds were SO comfy and the toiletries were divine.

If we ever ran out of anything - dishwasher tablets, tea bags, washing powder or needed to borrow anything the front desk were so obliging.

The gym is also great. People actually pay for membership by the look of things so it's very well equipped. Albeit small.

Our concern that the nook might be right next to our room which would prevent us all from sleeping well was unfounded. There was lots of space / privacy and our 7 year old loved it as it had a hatch and it was a double bed raised up into a cubby with wardrobe and shelves.

We could open the windows for fresh air. We could pair our phone to the TV or speakers to stream our own movies and music etc. You name it, this place has it.

The staff were excellent too.

The only thing I recommend is that the hotel offers Porter service for bags from the High St. When we arrived there was only 1 person on Reception who was busy so we had to negotiate all our luggage down and up quite a few steps to the hotel. On departure, one of the lovely ladies helped us. A small request amidst a MASSIVE thank you.

We spent 7 wonderful nights here, including Hogmanay. Amazing! Could even see the Christmas lights in Princes St Gardens from our room.

Old Town Chambers was perfect for us (family of 4). It couldn't be better located, everything is only a short walk away. You are surrounded by restaurants and cafes and only a few minutes away from the main attractions and transport (bus, tram and train station). The room itself was lovely, very clean, well maintained, good layout and well provisioned for those who want to eat in (we didn't). It was a perfect base for our trips out and great when staying in (Wifi, TV, Netflix, Bluetooth audio). Regarding the steps others mention, approaching OTC from the train station side there is maybe 100 steps, its really no big deal, every time we went up them we had a race to the top (the kids generally won). To avoid the steps when arriving with cases the concierge advised us to get an Uber from the Airport (~ÂŁ25) and get dropped on the high st side, which we did.

Room was tastefully decorated and equipt with good quality furniture, furnishings. Bed was so comfy. Exceptionally clean throughout. They leave bottled water and a pint of milk in fridge, perfect after a 220m journey. Toiletries were lush. Staff really friendly. Situated on the main street 5 mins walk to castle. Negatives, didn't have a view as in basement so windows looked onto many steps at side of hotel and noisy at closing time with people climbing steps. Still didn't ruin our perfect weekend. Will Definitely stay again

We came to Edinburgh after a West Highland Way hiking trip to enjoy the various festivals taking place in August. The hotel itself could not be in a better location, situated on The Royal Mile across from St. Giles and only a 5 minute walk from the castle. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment with a “bed alcove.” The apartment is very spacious with a great little kitchen, washer/dryer combo and very nice bathroom. Plenty of room to stretch out. Very modern. The bed alcove is a little awkward however, and is best suited for kids as opposed to an adult. It’s really just a closet with a bed in it with no space around it at all and no bedside table to even put a glass on. There is no door, just a curtain.

The staff was very friendly and helpful and couldn’t have been nicer.

We did have an issue with noise. Granted, this great location is in the middle of a very vibrant area with lots of bars and nightlife. However, our room was in the back building of the two buildings that comprise the hotel and overlooked a courtyard that was used as outdoor seating for a restaurant. Even with the windows shut, we could easily hear the conversations of the restaurant customers and anyone else who happened to be walking through the courtyard which was also access to the Royal Mile in the front. Even after the restaurant closed, there was noise of cleaning, trash removal and moving furniture around until late into the night. Also, we couldn’t ever open the drapes in the main bedroom as there were tables directly outside and we would be easily visible to most diners. This is a pretty major flaw, especially after paying close to $500 a night and makes me feel that these rooms should be priced less as our experience was diminished.

Also to be aware of is accessibility. If you are planning to walk to the hotel, as we did, from the train station, be advised that the path here includes lots of stairs. It seems silly to take a cab from a few hundred yards away, but unless you want to drag your luggage up a hundred or so stairs, a cab is the way to go.

Dear Bobindenver1, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We truly appreciate your detailed review and are delighted to read your comments on our location and amenities. It's wonderful to know that you enjoyed the spaciousness and modern amenities of your one-bedroom apartment, as well as the friendliness and helpfulness of our staff. We take great pride in providing comfortable and welcoming accommodations to our guests. We do, however, apologize for the inconvenience you experienced due to the noise issues during your stay. We understand that our prime location on The Royal Mile, while fantastic for exploring Edinburgh's vibrant atmosphere, can sometimes result in increased noise levels. We will certainly take your feedback into consideration and explore ways to mitigate such disturbances in the future. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Regarding the bed alcove, we appreciate your feedback and will evaluate the feasibility of making improvements to enhance the comfort of our adult guests in that area. Lastly, we understand that accessibility can be a concern for some guests, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the stairs leading to the hotel. We will work on improving signage and communication to assist guests in navigating this aspect more easily along with our porters to be present at all the time on our guests' arrival. We hope that you still had an enjoyable time exploring Edinburgh. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we strive to provide the best possible experience for our guests. Once again, thank you for choosing to stay with us, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future for an even more pleasant stay. Kind Regards, Nick Sforza Reception Supervisor

This is the first time we've stayed at serviced apartments, and, frankly, given the choice I would stay in one again rather than an hotel. It must be noted that The Cheval has set the bar extremely high. These apartments are spacious, beautifully appointed, with a lovely dining and seating area. It is equipped to a high standard, with top of the range appliances (Nepresso coffee machine, pods etc are provided) , THE most comfortable bed, and generously stocked bathroom soaps and lotions. The staff are friendly, courteous and professional. Highly recommended.

I booked Cheval Old Town Chambers as a 70th Birthday surprise for my husband. Having never visited Edinburgh before I did some research and found just what I was looking for. From the time of booking communication was great and any queries sorted quickly and efficiently. We booked a chauffeur to pick us up from the airport which was all sorted by Cheval Old Town Chambers staff. On arrival at the airport Paul, our chauffeur was there waiting for us, superb service. Again communication was first class.
On arrival at The Old Town Chambers we were given a very warm and friendly greeting by the front of house staff. They were chatty, knowledgable and made us feel very welcome.
The porter showed us to the Penthouse Apartment which was at the back in the older part building. On entering we were very pleasantly surprised, not only by the size of the apartment but by the quality of everything. The staff had left a note and a bottle of red wine to welcome us and wishing my husband the happiest of birthdays, a really lovely and thoughtful surprise
The penthouse suite is fully equipped with a full kitchen which has dishwasher, microwave, oven, hob, Nespresso coffee machine, a full size fridge and lots of equipment should you want to cater for yourselves. Milk was supplied along with bottled water, a variety of tea bags, coffee, sugar and Nespresso pods. The dining area, lounge, bedroom and bathroom are all large with tasteful decor and everywhere is spotlessly clean. I had requested a walk in shower when booking and was pleasantly surprised to find a large walk in shower along with a full sized bath, superb. Lots of lovely toiletries are supplied, in large bottles which were topped up daily.
There is even a small hidden area, in a cupboard, which houses a washing machine, ironing board and clothes airer, all like new. We felt a little more spoilt when we discovered bifold doors onto a large balcony with seating area with incredible views over New Town and Princes Street, just fabulous, day and night. Location is perfect, so central, right on the Royal Mile with majority of things within walking distance, this doesn’t however mean that it’s noisy. We found the Chambers to be very peaceful and rarely heard noise from outside or other guests.
The use if an app was helpful throughout or stay with the ability to live chat staff, look up restaurants and get information about appliances etc
All in all we had a wonderful stay, just too short. Highly recommend

Stayed here a few times now and find it hard to fault, there is no parking, but if you are coming by train that won't worry you. Access is not great if you have poor physical health or disabilities, so be aware that you'll need to move your luggage up and down a fair few steps. The apartments are cool and have great facilities, our suite had a lounge/kitchen with dishwasher, microwave/oven, all fully kitted out. WiFi is strong in all apartments and gym is fine.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here on our first trip to Edinburgh, and wow what a stay! The most beautiful hotel, from walking up the royal mile to going inside, everything about it was just perfect. We had expectations but they were exceeded massively, the room we had booked was just beautiful, the beds were so comfy, it catered for everything you need from a kettle and toaster to having a smart tv. The hotel was in the perfect location, down some steps at the side of the hotel brings you out right at the front on princess street, you couldn’t ask for any better. Yes the hotel is a little on the pricey side but when your on the royal mile , 2 minute walk from Edinburgh castle, your in the heart of it, so worth it. In terms of noise I couldn’t complain, we didn’t hear anything outside of the hotel rooms and out doors, it was all peaceful.
It was all the little things that made it all that more quirky, for your room and to get in the hotel you had to put a passcode in, which for us was good as no one had to carry the key then. We also took our iPad with us so that whilst in the room we connected our iPad to the TV, so simple , not essential as they do have channels.
The parking they suggest is about a 10 minute walk, and if you walk up the royal mile it is up hill slightly, but nothing major, they give you 20% off for the parking on check out, don’t forget to get it!!! It’s not the cheapest but for safety and security of the car it’s worth it.

From the gorgeous soaking tub to the various lighting options, this place was super luxurious. The brick walls and large flat screen TV to the lovely concierge who gave us a welcome walk through, we loved it. It was perfect for a family. Gio was a wonderful concierge and so helpful from day one.

We did have a few issues with the doors while we were there and the office staff didn't seem that bothered. We really wanted to have separate 'rooms' for the kids, hence renting an apartment, but they never got fixed.

That's the only bad thing I could say about this place!

The location is perfect. A tip is to park your car on Cockburn Street and just walk up the close. Also, if you want feather pillows you have to request them. I didn't read this part of the guide until our fifth night, oops!

This hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Edinburgh, with all the main attractions within a 5-10 minute walk. Check-in was smooth with a very warm welcome. Despite arriving early the staff did everything they could to get us into our room earlier at 1.30pm. We had a one bed deluxe apartment overlooking the Royal Mile - wow! The room had air conditioning which was great as we stayed during a heatwave. However not all rooms have this as we travelled with family and they were in a different part of the building and had to rely on a fan. The apartment was great as we had a lounge/kitchen, separate bedroom and bathroom plus a surprise of a washer/dryer to clean clothes (useful if on holiday for a longer time). All decorated well. Could not fault the apartment but would suggest a couple of very minor improvements. The apartment could benefit from some coat hooks, put a mirror in the bedroom (the only one is located inside the wardrobe on the wrong door) but these are very minor. Finally breakfast was included and this is served in the restaurant attached to the apartments and again could not fault the quality. Would recommend to anyone staying, as its amazing.
