We enjoyed our stay in Holiday Inn Express last week. I only have one issue, I booked a twin room 9 months ago and was disappointed to be given a room with a double bed and a sofa bed. The sofa bed was reasonably comfortable but I would have preferred the twin we booked. Apart from that everything was very good, the room was small but clean and well equipped. The bathroom was compact but clean and the shower was good. My favourite thing was the fabulous towels, large and great quality. Every staff member we interacted with was polite, friendly and helpful in helping us make the most of our visit. We had breakfast in the hotel, lots of hot or cold options to choose from. Would I stay again? Yes, if I could be guaranteed the room I booked. The location is ideal for visiting the city.

Stayed here in Feb, ideal location, stayed in two different rooms, one was newly decorated which was really nice, the other was a wee bit older but it was fine, the staff were really helpful, and breakfast was fine, would stay again.

I will start this review off by saying the staff here are incredibly friendly, the location was fab and the free included breakfast was decent, but it all goes downhill from there. We were assigned a room on the “ground floor” but felt like a basement, was very dark and faced a car park. Not amazing, but we thought we could hack it for a couple of nights. However, upon closer inspection of the bathroom we found a massive crack in the shower floor and a MUSHROOM growing in the bathroom. I understand that staying at a Holiday Inn won’t be a luxury 5 star experience, however there are certain health & safety and cleanliness standards that need to be met. This, combined with the fact they had the audacity to charge £600 a night on the weekend we stayed (luckily we didn’t pay this, thank you Booking.com), this hotel stay was very disappointing. I don't think I’d consider staying here again if I ever have the pleasure of being back in the beautiful city of Edinburgh.

"Dear guest, Thank you for choosing the Holiday Inn Express - Edinburgh City Centre and for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience at our hotel. I would like to start by apologising to you for not meeting your expectations. We strive to make each stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible, and we will use your comments to coach our team in order to provide a better experience in the future. I will most certainly pass your comments onto our Maintenance manager, so that we can make sure this does not happen ever again. After a thorough room inspection, there was no mushroom found in the room you stayed in. It may sound quite excessive on some days, but being in the City Centre, the price for the hotel rooms is actually considered “budget” in comparison to many of the nearby hotels, and this can go very high with a large demand or event within Edinburgh I hope you will give us a chance by staying with us again to show you that your unsatisfactory stay was an exception. Again, thank you for sharing your comments, and if we can be of any further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards, Yanis Kelemouridis Guest Service Manager"

The room was nice enough, typical hotel stains on carpets and sofa, and the paint was peeling away at the window. Window was also very small compared to other rooms I've stayed in. Breakfast was basic as it is included. The actual layout of the hotel was very confusing. The lifts were usually at the bottom of stairs for each floor, so had to carry my luggage up and down stairs to get it to the room. Also, one lift didn't go to floor 5, and the other not to floor 6, and the signs from the lift to the rooms were few and far between.

This hotel was convenient for our stay in Edinburgh, it's incredibly close to the centre of the city and well connected to public transport. The staff were also super helpful when we asked to leave our bags in their storage after we checked out as our train was quite late on that day! The only issue I had was the lack of vegetarian cooked breakfast - there may have been an option to ask for it but we never saw staff at breakfast and there was no signs that I could see. It may have just been me missing it though, and they did have cereal and pastries etc!

One of the best things about Holiday Inn Express is the excellent value they provide accommodating a family of four in one room, and with daily breakfast and housekeeping. This was a nice property in a heritage building. Our experience of Holiday Inn Express is that they have been consistently spotlessly clean and well located. Pros 1) Location - Our car rental company was just across the road, mini mart a few steps next to the hotel. Attractions in the New Town and Royal Mile all within walking distance including the railway station and Winter Wonderland. Shopping centre, F&B outlets nearby 2) Housekeeping, toiletries, coffee/tea for four replenished daily (unlike being in an apartment) 3) Daily buffet breakfast included in rate 4) Very kindly provided luggage storage when we went away to the highlands for 3 days Cons Beds could be bigger, more comfortable; pillows could be better; it is pretty much self-service (lugging your luggage up and down the few steps when you arrive and depart; going to reception to collect complimentary toothpaste if you need) - minor nice-to-have's. For the overall value, it is excellent.

The staff is very very friendly and helpful. A special shout out to Sohail. The hotel location is very central and easy to get to. There are lots of restaurants and shopping nearby .Only point of improvement is the bedspread (it had holes and stains on it).

Great 2 day stay - Hotel is well placed for train station, trams, Princes Street and the Royal Mile - walking distance to all. Having read some of the reviews prior to our visit, I was concerned that a double bed might be an issue given my husband's dodgy knees (there were no twin rooms available for our dates) so I emailed the hotel prior to our stay. Arianna kindly arranged for us to have a kingsize bed which was ideal - thank you Arianna - great customer service. Our experience was all positive - friendly staff, lovely clean room and plentiful breakfast.

My sister and I spent four nights at the the hotel recently. It was the perfection location for us as we were going to the Playhouse theatre just across the road, plus we had planned to have dinner at the fabulous Mama Momo Italian restaurant and it was just around the corner from the hotel. The St James's Quarter shopping centre we wanted to go to was 5 mins away. A short walk straight up Leith Street and we were in Princess Street and then across the way to the Castle and Royal Mile. The bus stop was very handy for Ocean Terminal to visit the Royal Yacht Britania as it stopped just around the corner from the hotel. The hotel reception staff were so helpful and all really nice. Breakfast staff were so hardworking and still replenshing food near the finishing time and nothing was any bother for them. The quiet room was great as very clean with no sign of tear and wear. Very comfortable bed and pillows etc.. We plan to visit Edinburgh again in the future and wouldn't hesitate in staying at this hotel again.
