Stayed for 3 nights at the hotel. Since I was a solo traveller, found this hotel convenient, safe and perfect. Arrived by the tram from the airport. Got off at York Place and the hotel is 60 seconds away. Perfect location. Prompt staff. Could travel around the area, restaurants very close by. One of the female receptionists may look uptight...

Booked this room as a last minute deal 79 for one night including breakfast for the 2 of us is seriously cheap in my opinion. Very clean hotel situated within in a 2 minute walk the St James shopping centre and all the shopping. Directly across from the playhouse. Several convience stores just outside. Rooms are a bit on the...

Arrived in reception to be greeted immediately by very attentive staff, our room was a pleasant surprise, clean and comfy. Great central location to pubs, restaurants and shopping. Approx 5 minute walk from train station. Would definitely stay here again. Although i would not pay £110.00 per night, we got it cheaper on a comparison web site. Got it for £68.00 which...

This hotel is in an excellent spot however I'd ask for a room at the back as it is fairly noisy outside being next to a roundabout and on the way to Leith. The rooms are basic, but thankfully we hadn't paid the full price, definitely not worth room rate £110 per night. Breakfast was buffet style with sausages, scrambled...

Upon arrival me and my guests we greeted by gossiping members of staff, not one offered to take my clearly pregnant friends bag to the room. The room itself was spacious, however the bathroom had no lighting whatsoever resulting in a rather spooky shower, I was terrified to say the least. However it was scarier in the morning when I...

This hotel is close to good bars in Broughton Street, a good selection of restaurants in Leith Walk and positioned across from the Playhouse and St James Centre. Parking can be an issue especially at Christmas, available at the Omni centre.the rooms are basic but clean, also warm with secondary glazing. Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
