I agree with most of what the other reviewers said e.g. Friendly staff, very spacious apartment and I'd be happy to recommend this place to anyone visiting Edinburgh. However, two things stop me from giving a 5/5: (1) the neighborhood looks a bit bleak on first glance; however it is very safe and not too far from the city center,...

Found apartment via trip advisor. Although our cabbie had a little difficulty finding the place ( not his fault, tram construction) check in was painless. Apartment was VERY large, lots of room to spread out and the free wi-fi invaluable. 15 minute walk to royal mile, and if you are lost , native Edinburgh residents actually stopped and asked if...

We found Fountain Courts after a desperate search on last minute.com, as we had planned to stay a night in Aberdeen & found there were absolutely no rooms available there that night. Rang from Aberdeen & were offered this apartment at a very good rate. We were arriving after reception closed, so they gave us the entry codes & an...

We checked in to these apartments. The guy on reception was so friendly & helpful. I told him about a bad experience I had in other apartments (Tartan Apts) He immediately upgraded us to the penthouse suite as it wasn't busy. I thought this was a really nice gesture. It was very much appreciated & made our stay. The apartment...

Third time here. Ideal for families as the apartments are large and excellent value for money. Beginning to show their age and some of the fittings could do with replacement. Kitchen is well equipped and good for dining in. Main drawback is the slightly bleak surroundings. The area is on the process of being developed but this seems to be...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
