Staying in Edinburgh for one night on business I picked this place as it is very close to the station and my meetings. All the staff were really friendly. There are several flights of stairs to get to reception and then more to get to my room, no lift that I saw. My double room was a little small, as...

A five minute walk from Waverley station so a really good location for exploring this wonderful city. We received a lovely welcome from the owners and apart from the several flights of stairs to get to reception and then more to get to the room this is a good guest house. The room was large and relatively quiet.

Very good value, friendly staff and satisfying Scottish breakfast. As this is a small guest house, very little extra facilities No Guest lounge. Tea and coffee making facilities are available. There is no lift to rooms. Overall though we will be going back to Elder York.excellent value.

Location - it was 5 minutes walk from Waverley Bridge( its 20mins by bus from the airport) and if you are visiting London, trains are from Waverley Station which is in the same area also. Waverley mall is located also on the same area. All Hop On Hop Off Bus are starting from Waverley Bridge, there was lots of shopping...

If you're looking for a quiet nights' sleep, look elsewhere. Since there's no air conditioning or fan, you must leave the window open to get some air. It's a very busy street with the bus terminal being nearby, so it's very noisy. Bring your ear plugs. There are loads of stairs to climb just to get to the reception. Really...

Yes, there's a lot of stairs to climb at Elder York Guest House. We wera aware of 2 flights of them but surprised to discover it was actually more than that! With heavy luggage for a 3 weeks tour of Scotland, that was a lot. We managed but were really happy to meet the owner's son the last day and...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
