We stayed here on a Saturday night in December. Not too far from Waverley Station and handy for shopping. Yes there are a lot of stairs up to reception but, hey exercise is good. We were greeted by Murray who let us into our rooms early. He even gave us a map of the city, marked on some places for...

I would like to start off by saying that there were 5 flights of stairs to get to the rooms with no lift provided. That being said, when you get to the reception, you are greeted by some of the friendliest staff i have ever come across. They made sure we felt comfortable and valued as customers. The rooms were...

Comfy b&b. Perfect located, just 2 min from the bus stop. The b&b is 2 levels up, so be prepared to climb some stairs! Nice staff & owner. We arrived a couple hours early but it wasn't a problem to leave our bag and make a quick stop at the bathroom. We stayed only night here, but I recommend it!...

My hubby and I stayed here overnight when we were in Edinburgh for Kevin Bridges at the playhouse... The guest house is in a great location only a short walk from the train station and it's only 5 mins to the playhouse. The rooms are very nice, they are clean and spacious with an en suite bathroom, the staff are...

Perfect location – at the stop to the tram coming from the airport and at just next to the bus station. Clean rooms, helpful and friendly staff, assistance of Mrs. Monica cannot be overestimated. However note that in some rooms you may hear departing busses, so ask for quite rooms. The guesthouse is in 20 minutes walking distance from the...

Just stayed at the Elder York Guest House. Right in the Heart of Edinburgh. As anyone who knows Edinburgh most of the Accommodation is converted Town houses with numerous storeys and no lifts. If you have difficulty walking up stairs this is not for you. However if you can climb stairs this is a perfect location and for the girls...

Guest house is in perfect position to walk all around Edinburgh. Breakfast was terrific, full Scottish breakfast with bacon, eggs, black pudding, hash browns, tomato, cereals, fruit, yogurt etc. Harry was wonderful, lits of advice on what to do. We had 3 flights to carry luggage up but Harry assisted us and you are forewarned so can't complain about that....

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
