We chose Adria House on the recommendation of a British friend and were happy with the choice. Our room was large and comfortable and the en-suite bath was large enough to have both a tub and a stall shower. Eddie and Maria who own the place are extremely personable and helpful. Breakfast was fine. Two possible caveats: (1)if you walk... More

Adria House is different from other hotels that my family and I have visited. It is run by a passionate brother and sister team who really make sure you enjoy your stay. The room is spacious and clean. The hot and tasty breakfast gave me and my teenage nephew plenty of energy for our morning visit to the castle and... More

Perfect location if you want a quiet spot but within close proximity to Edinburgh city centre, Leith, Royal Mile, Waverley, Holyrood and many more. Calton hill is directed immediately behind the house, and has stunning views. The area felt very safe at all times of day. The guesthouse was beautifully decorated and also very clean and light, the room was... More

We found the Adria House to be within walking distance of everything we wanted to see. They gave us great suggestions of where to start with exploring Edinburgh. They packed a wonderful takeaway breakfast for our early morning departure.

We spent a weekend on October 2016. Adria House is located 15’on foot from Waverly train station and 10’ on foot from the end of Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace at the feet of Calton Hill. It was our first time in a B&B and we were very pleased. It was a family run B&B and Maria, the co owner,... More

What an amazing stay, in an amazing property, in an amazing city! First, a little background: we were traveling as a couple without children, and I am a former travel agent, so VERY picky about cleanliness and overall service. I am also a foodie, so poorly prepared food bothers me and is something I don't care to eat. This was... More

We really enjoyed staying at Adria House. We had a lovely big family room on the first floor with beautiful views out the window. Adria House is in a great location for exploring Edinburgh and the breakfasts were delicious! It is within easy walking distance of Waverley Station.

This B&B is incredibly cute - one of the prettiest B&Bs that I've ever stayed in. It's in a great location walking distance to shops, restaurants, the train stations, and sights. There is a hair dryer in the room and the internet works well. The hosts were gracious and the breakfast was delicious! The only downside is that the bed... More

We recently visited Edinburgh and stayed at the Adria House. Couldn't have asked for a better location, The room was light and bright with huge windows looking out onto Royal Terrace, with big shutters to close if we wanted to sleep in a bit. The room was spotless and the bed was very comfortable! While not attached to the room,... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The family-run Adria House offers charming, comfortable accommodation and good value for it's central location. It is within easy walking distance of the main bus and train stations and also near many of Edinburgh's principal cultural, historical and retail landmarks. Situated on Calton Hill within a UNESCO World Heritage Site and once a fashionable society house, the Adria House embodies much of the Georgian architecture and decorative elegance associated with the period found within Edinburgh's New Town. ... more   less
