Lovely room, clean, fresh, just what I would expect, great look out to the grassmarket and the night life, iv lived in Edinburgh 41 year but this must be one of the best places to stay, staff are so so welcoming and they keep checking is the room okay and are you okay they go above and beyond Clio, Steven&Jamie also the lads from the pub huge respect nothing was to big or small. I think a lot of people can learn a lot from the staff and this hotel. Great work guys

Cool hotel in a great central location at a reasonable price. After being let down and struggling to get a last minute replacement hotel we found the Grassmarket Hotel. Jamie was fantastic and sorted everything out for us. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He really turned our bad experience into a good one. When we return to Edinburgh we will definitely book the Grassmarket.

The hotel's location is ideal for exploring the city. Grassmarket is a lively square with many pubs and linked to one of Edinburgh's most beautiful streets (Victoria Street). We were 2 minutes away from the Royal Mile and all the main attractions. The bus stop on the bridge makes it possible to go everywhere in a short time. The staff is very welcoming and we had a great time talking to them. We'd like to thanks them for the nice chat we had, for their help with anything we might need and their friendliness (as well as professionnalism). The room was large, with a huge and comfy bed, it was like sleeping on a cloud! The shower was nice too. The decoration on the walls was very nice. Huge TV, free tea and coffee in the room and a fridge. The reception was open 24 hours a day, which allowed us to check out in the middle of the night. And we could leave our luggage at check-in while waiting for our room to be ready. 10% discount in the pub next door on presentation of the room card, much appreciated! However, the hotel being close to the pubs, despite being on the 3rd floor, it was noisy and I recommend earplugs if you are bothered by the noise. Cleanliness could be improved, a bedside table would have been nice as I didn't know where to put my stuff. The TV didn't work well, the channels changed by themselves, sometimes YouTube or other applications opened without us touching the remote, it was a bit strange and annoying. Either it's the ghosts or it's interference from the room next door? Anyway, we recommend this place and will be back!

Great room. We had a booking in Biddy Mulligan’s ‘Wee Pub’ next door so the location was perfect. Despite the Grassmarket location above a pub that was open until 1, the room was quiet and we slept well. Everything was pristine and looked like new. Would definitely book again.

First of all, the location is great. Parking is a bit of a problem, but that’s across all of Edinburgh. Best to find a car park and either walk or Uber to the hotel. When they advertised the property as “quirky”, we weren’t sure what to expect. We found out. First of all, they did not have the room set up as we had requested and they had confirmed: two twin beds vs. one double bed. They “fixed” it, but the new room was still only a double bed, but in a different location so you didn’t have the drag your bags up two flights of stairs (just one!) This is not a luxury location, just 40-some rooms, some in an old part of the building, which is “interesting”. We get warm easily and although they had Dyson units in the rooms, the air intakes were completely blocked with dust, so not much cool air (or any air for that matter) could be generated. Someone before us punched holes into the air intake filter, apparently to just get some air. I highly recommend that the establishment improvement their maintenance practices. I am still pleased enough with the hotel. I would not stay there with family again, but would consider it if were just me traveling. A huge positive on the way out was the breakfast at the connect pub: Biddy Mulligans. The continental (10 GBP add on per person) was amazing and well worth it. Smoked salmon and haddock, cold ham, beef, salami, yogurts, toast, coffee, juices, etc. It was a nice way to start our trip.

I had a single room that was a bit on the small size but was perfectly adequate for my needs for one night. The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect right in the middle of the grassmarket with great restaurants and pubs nearby. It was also a reasonable price given i was staying on the night of a rugby game.

This hotel is not what it seems like in-person versus the image: they portray online. While the hotel is in a good location to the castle, the condition of the hotel is horrid. The rooms are filthy and reek of cigarette smoke. My room’s bed sheets had hair and remnants of blood all over the beds. The toilet seat cover was broken and when I called and asked about a replacement, they could not do so. The hotel sits on top of a pub so as soon as you are ready to go to bed, you hear club music and if you have a room that faces the street, lights from the club can be seen. I do not recommend staying here! Spend your money elsewhere!

Good value, great location, fairly comfortable, clean on arrival, not cleaned every day of our stay though. Helpful staff, lift only to first floor and rooms in a bit of a rabbit warren. However, it is quirky, pleasant and somewhere I would return.

Fabulous hotel. Very friendly reception and bar staff. Good food and drink at the adjoining Biddy Mulligan's pub, especially the fish and chips! And great breakfasts there too. Good value for money. Would highly recommend.

Our room was tiny, i had to climb over bed to get into it as one side was pretty much touching wall at window. Reception area is small which is fine but when checking in there was two members of staff who had obviously just finished there shift sitting drinking beer right beside the check in desk - that doesn't look professional at all (they could easily have stayed in the bar and drank their beer there) Noise from outside loud and continuous until about 3am. Was then woke up with glass bins outside being emptied at about 8am and then woke again with the cleaner hoovering outside our room at 9am due to walls and doors being so thin I could hear everything so barely any sleep was had! The lift didn't feel safe, it jerks a little as soon as you get in before you press any buttons. Bathroom is so small. The mattresses on the bed (they were two single mattresses instead of a double) were far too hard and uncomfortable. When checking out the guy at the reception desk didn't even ask how our stay was/if everything had been okay for us, literally took our key cards and said goodbye. Won't be rushing back to stay here again to be honest, would much rather spend my money somewhere I am going to actually manage to sleep.
