This past September was our 4th visit to Scotland, and as with our previous visits we couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Edinburgh but Straven. So much so, that we waited to book our flight until we had made our bookings at Straven. Prior to our booking, we went on the Straven website, and were surprised to see that there... More

Located a short bus ride from center city, in a lovely area with a wonderful walkway along the waterfront. Each night we strolled along enjoying the sunset on our way to a charming offbeat dinner. Breakfast at the guest house was substantial and tasty, the room was spacious, the hosts were friendly. Only regret is that we did not plan... More

Was a great stay at the Straven guest house, the owners were very hospitable and friendly. Breakfast was outstanding and we were lucky to get nice weather while in Edinburgh. The street is quiet and right near the beautiful beach for morning strolls. I don't have any real complaints about our stay, it felt a little stuffy in the room... More

Our second visit to the Straven guest house. The welcome on arrival and personal service are just a couple of the reasons we came back. The owners made us so welcome. Their breakfasts are the best we have had anywhere. We were visiting friends in Portabello and they too were made very welcome. We would recommend the Straven to anyone... More

Chris and Sinead really make you feel home, the location by the sea is awesome and breakfast is amazing. The rooms are really clean and cozy. To get there you just take a bus at the city centre and go to Portobello, the house is just 2 minutes away from the stop.

Sinead and Chris at Straven Guest House were wonderful hosts. We arrived early, so they showed us around, let us leave our luggage, and gave us helpful tips for taking the bus into downtown. The room was large, clean, and very comfortable. The full Scottish breakfast was HUGE and delicious. If we are ever in the area again, we would... More

We stayed for 3 nights at Straven House and have no complaints at all. The hosts were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfasts were excellent with locally sourced ingredients and many items were homemade. Good location for both the beach at Portobello and an easy bus ride into Edinburgh. We will be back.
