I've stayed here before since I am a member and the location is brilliant. BUT this place could and should be wonderful and yet it's dull, miserable lighting, unthought through design, no art, appalling, cheap light fittings, shoddy joinery and just no management grip. The food is excellent and underpriced while the wine and other drinks overpriced. The staff are...

I was given a smallish room but did not question because I thought that is what I had paid for. The bed was big and nice. The TV was ok but could have given more choices. The shower was great, staff very helpful, breakfast was nice so was the dinner. Yes, I would go back!

I had a lovely stay in this historic building directly across from the Castle. My room had a tremendous view, it was a little noisy at night but that's to be expected when your room faces busy Princes St. The cooked to order breakfast was a great way to start the day and my breakfast server was so helpful with...

Very handy situated over looking Edinburgh castle. The reception led straight off to the lifts my room on the 4rth floor was very spacious but pretty dated and not spotlessly clean by any means. The tiles in the bathroom dirty and behind the toilet all cracked. Toilet roll was sparce and the windows very dirty. Scuffed paint etc in the...

We were greeted by friendly reception staff who directed us to the restaurant where we were well looked after by attentive, mannerly staff who responded to a couple of requests quickly and pleasantly. Good choice of fresh and delicious food.

The hotel is in the centre of the city, near everything. The staff is great. The spanish girl was very helpfull. The breakfast was great and the service even better. We only stayed one night, but we were delighted. Thank you very much.

The hotel was really nice. The receptionist very kindly upgraded us to a lovely big room with stunning views over Edinburgh and the Castle. The room was quite plain and a little outdated, but it was very comfortable and had a little settee and coffee table, a big bathroom with a shower over the bath and had all the usual...

Dined here whilst away on business and enjoyed a fabulous meal with exceptional service at a great price (although having a membership helps!) Thoroughly wonderful members club with superb views overlooking the Castle and gardens.

Party of three, stayed 4 nights. Lovely spacious bedrooms. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. Evening meals very reasonably priced. Very helpful and friendly reception staff. Our waiter at breakfast was also friendly suggesting places of interest to visit. Our stay was exceptional value for money.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
