The hotel's staff receives accolades for their friendly and efficient service, despite occasional slow responses. We stayed here as a family for a few nights on the run up to Christmas. Having read the reviews, and used the chain for loads of city stays in the past, we hoped it would suit our needs.
Firstly, this is uber handy for the railway station... literally a two minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley. Due to it being where it is, it's not the end of the World if you need to go back for something.
The staff were very attentive, the room was clean, comfortable, and everything worked. The bar is expensive (show me a hotel bar that isn't), but unlike the Wetherspoons up the road, at least you could sit down.
We had breakfast both days, and it was good. It's a buffet style affair, but staff were quite happy to do poached eggs, omelettes, etc upon request. A child eats free for every adult purchasing a breakfast, so it works out no more expensive than if you ate elsewhere, but with the convenience that it's just downstairs.
We requested a quiet room, and staff delivered (5th floor end of a corridor).
It was nice to see that the child's bed in the family room, is actually a bed (as opposed to a sofa bed adaptation) in this hotel too.
There is an Indian restaurant next door, which we didn't try (as we'd pre-booked elsewhere), but other guests I spoke to said it was really good.
If you're wanting views of the serengeti or the hanging gardens of babylon, then you may want to look elsewhere. However, for most people who just want a central location, and somewhere to be warm /comfortable at the end of a tiring day, then this is just the job.

My best friend and I stayed here from Friday 2nd - Monday 5th, to spend a long weekend visiting Edinburgh.

Check in was fast and straightforward, greeted by very friendly staff. Advised to wear face masks in public spaces in the hotel in line with Covid guidelines.

Room was standard Premier Inn style. All very clean and Covid-Safe measures in place.
We were advised on check in that (due to covid, to minimise risk for housekeeping staff) the room would not be cleaned daily or linen/towels changed during the stay but this could be arranged if requested. We called down to have some clean towels one evening and they arrived very promptly.

The location of this hotel is perfect for a sightseeing weekend in Edinburgh, as it is located on the Royal Mile and everything is on walking distance (Old Town, New Town, Edinburgh Castle, Arthur’s Seat and so forth).

On checkout they have a luggage room which was very handy for us so we could spend our last day exploring before collecting our luggage just before our train departed (you can see the hotel from the train station, it is literally a two minute walk just down the road).

Only one negative was the TV had signal issues so a lot of channels were not available, however we did not feel the need to report this as we did not spend much time in the room, but this may have been a problem for some people (although I’m sure easily resolved if we had told the staff).

All in all, a faultless, excellent value stay! Thank you!

We have stayed in many Premier Inns but this was our first visit to Edinburgh, we booked the premier inn plus room it's slightly bigger with a mini fridge coffee machine plus all the usual , it also had an iron & ironing board. We enjoyed our stay , the room was lovely, but we only did the breakfast 1 morning as we found somewhere better , and the breakfast was limited as we're the drinks in the bar. Beer was only sold in bottles , there were no beers on tap , wine is only sold by the bottle and there were no spirits , we did have a gin & Tonic in a can but it was expensive. The room was only cleaned on request and you had to ask for clean towels , & tea, coffee milk etc which wasn't a problem. We found all the staff friendly & helpful and for us it was in a great spot just off the royal mile with the car park at the end of the rd , if your planning a trip to Edinburgh then I'd recommend this premier inn.

Hotel location, convenient for Waverley station and Premier Inn being a known quantity made this a good choice for a long weekend visiting the city as tourists. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful and responsive to requests. The 'plus' room was fine with the exception of the drench type shower. These showers are a nuisance for those who do not want to wash their hair everyday or are unable to do a handstand in the bath when wishing to properly wash their undercarriage. Also, the lack of big enough towel racks meant the towels could not be properly dried and therefore fresh towels were requested, and willingly provided, each day. It is understandable that pandemic precautions restrict room access by staff but clean cups would have been nice or a tea towel to dry the used ones. Overall these inconveniences did not detract from a very pleasant stay.

Nice welcoming reception and the room was clean and well maintained and a good size.

Parking was a short walk in the station car park and the discount given to hotel guests made this excellent value in the city centre.

The hotel is adjacent to some good resturants including the Chop House, and is an excellent location for many Edinburgh attractions and shops.

My only issue was that the wifi was not great - I paid for the enhanced wifi via Virgin and it didn't work at all. This problem is more to do with Virgin wifi rather than than the hotel who maybe better off finding another provider.

The location is good, 5 min walk from the station and just off the royal mile. All staff were friendly. We had a premier plus room, these are on the 4th floor. The room is what you expect from a premier inn with a few extras, the rain shower was very powerful but it would’ve been better to also have a detachable shower head. The addition of the ironing board and iron made the upgrade worth it for us. The nespresso was a basic model and difficult to use, we were provided with 4 pods but you can ask for more from reception.

We stayed for 4 nights, the only thing that felt a bit of a rip off is that you make no saving by booking multiple nights yet no one cleaned the room in all that time and some of the premium for this room goes towards the 2 bottles of water in the fridge and the small chocolate bars you get. Yet these aren’t replenished due to no room cleaning service.

We had an overflowing bin, no way of cleaning our coffee cups apart from rinsing in the bathroom sink so it all became a bit messy with no cleaning service. After searching their website I found due to Covid that you only get a clean after 6 nights or if you ask for one. I understand the Covid situation but 4 nights with the same cups, towels and no bin emptying made for a bit of a depressing room situation. If the information about being able to request a room clean had been more readily available this would’ve helped.

But the bed is comfortable and the downstairs bar is a reasonable price. Breakfast was fine with self service and lots of options although a couple of days there were no pastries left. I’d recommend avoiding evening meals as these are awful. We only ate once on an evening in the hotel but the food was poor, microwave curries or frozen food deep fried. Plenty of nearby restaurants with better food.

Fabulous hotel about 2 mins walk from the train station, easy to find and central for everything, lovely friendly staff.

Booked the premier plus room for a little extra and well worth it, get a £5 drinks voucher to use in the bar, nicer rooms, free wifi, fridge with water that is restocked, coffee pod machine and nice little chocolates.

Would definitely recommend.

Great room but poor food variety and wifi wasn't brilliant.
Coffee machine in room was great idea including washing/gel in bathroom.
Unhappy there wasn't much drawer space for clothing either.
Bed was very comfy.

Booked online given new premier Inn plus room straight away. Arrived to friendly and informative host, given early check in and £5 voucher (pp) for use at the bar and free super fast internet.

Rooms were spot on, bed and shower were a dream, ZERO noise heard for entire stay. Location fab, you're right at the edge of Royal Mile
and 3-4 mins from Waverley train st. 2 minute walk into royal mile and 8-10 mins to new town.

Will definitely consider premier plus room again and this premier Inn if back in Edinburgh.

We use Premier Inns quite regularly all over the UK and as with most things there are good ones and bad ones. The Royal Mile PI was normally quite good, I've probably stayed in it on 8 or 9 occasions but its gradually went downhill. Check-in was quick and we were given 301 on the 3rd floor looking onto Market Street, the room was cleaned to a decent standard however only two towels in the bathroom and two pillows on the bed. Why PI are doing this is behond me, they know two people are checking in yet only a hand towel and a bath towel is provided. I requested other towels and pillows which were issued. No room cleaning / servicing is carried out during your stay, if you need the bin emptied or fresh towels you have to request this at reception.
We have noticed that PI don't offer or make you aware of their Good Night Sleep Gaurantee anymore, perhaps it has been removed and I can see why. Our bed was horrendous, the mattress was collapsing in the middle and the bed frame creaked loudly whenever you moved on the bed. It needs replaced immediately and if you are given room 301 check that on arrival.
We did't eat breakfast in the hotel.

I'm booked into the PI Liverpool Albert Docks in October, I think this will be my last visit to a PI if it fails to provide the service it made its reputation on, there are now too many other options available. We book PI for the clean rooms , comfortable beds and convenient locations, if they fail to hit the mark on one then it will be time to move on.

Yes there is a large room to store luggage. They give you a ticket so keep that safe and you show it to them when collecting the bags.
