Detailed Reviews
We ran a full day training event at the hotel with 25 delegates.
The facilities were excellent, the hotel providing AV equipment, data projector & flip chart. We needed a 'break-out' room to run a small workshop with selected staff and the hotel were happy to clear a part of their dining area for this activity with very short notice.
Service was friendly and efficient.
We opted for the Italian Hot Buffet lunch and there was a great selection. The food was very fresh and delicious. We all sat down together for lunch was really amazing.
Our main speaker stayed in the hotel the night before the event and was very pleased with his room and especially pleased with breakfast!
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for small to medium sized corporate events.
Thank you to all the staff for a lovely day.
We'll be back.

My wife and I stayed here on the last night of a short cycling holiday and were, I think, amongst their first guests post lockdown.
In the circumstances some technical problems were, perhaps, inevitable but the staff went way beyond what might reasonably have been expected of them in order to make us feel comfortable.
We learned that the hotel had been nearing the end of a large scale refurbishment project in March and it shows. Both the public rooms and the bedrooms seen by us have been beautifully redecorated with a selection of well fashioned traditional furniture and luxury bedlinen. The mattress on our bed was one of the most comfortable that I have ever slept on.
We ate in the hotel and the food was both excellent and very good value; breakfast the next morning was bountiful and of a very high quality. We highly recommend this hotel.

The location is nice, we were told that we would have a sea view, but when you know its 2.5 miles from the sea and has a wooded parkland area, we didn't expect a full sea view, so we weren't disappointed - to see the sea was a skill!
Our room was disappointing.
On arrival the staff were very pleasant and showed us to our room. Looked very nice, I would class it as traditional Scottish, not the most modern (Room 4 - beware!).
We nipped down for a pre dinner drink and as there were a couple of functions on our seating spaces were limited, so we just headed to the dinning room. Dinner was nice and most people in the room were clearing their plates.
However, when we got to our room, we had no hot water or heating. I nipped to reception and they explained that the room is on its own immersion heater and that it should have been switched on. They provided an oil radiator for the room and reset the hot water. At least we had hot water for showers. The room radiator never heated up over the whole weekend, so the small radiator provided was a godsend but on the Sunday morning we had no hot water and when did we discover this, when we went for showers, not the best stay, having to have a cold shower on a nice and relaxing Sunday. Breakfasts were acceptable, but the quality and the staff were better on the Sunday morning than on the Saturday. I would recommend if you pick this location stay away from room 4.
(Stay was also very loud due to families having discussions and letting their kids run along the corridors early in the morning.)

Had a small family gathering here after my uncle's funeral. This is a beautiful hotel and has stunning furnishings, staff were very friendly and amenable. We booked for afternoon and 2 of our family were coeliac so I'd requested gluten free options to be available. This was also confirmed again a second time just to be sure on the day. However, after being seated the main food options were brought out with tea and coffee immediately having being sat down. The gluten free options were not brought out at this point and I had to prompt the staff that these choices had been requested. Waited 10 minutes, still nothing been brought out and the two guests had to sit with nothing in front of them to eat while the rest of the family could carry on. It took a second prompting of staff to finally bring out their gluten free options. Very disappointing and highly disrespectful to keep people waiting while others are being served. We got served large pots of tea and coffee, we were mostly drinking the coffee, however all said the same, that the coffee had been watered down so much to the point of being tasteless. I've never been to a hotel and drank coffee that was so watery. Such a shame that a place so grand and repectable can be this poor with their catering for special diets. I really hope that staff take this on board, and look at what other hotels are able to offer for gluten free options, not just get in cakes from the local supermarket, especially when the rest of the food was delicious and home baked.

Hotel is not the one on the website, it looks very run down and shabby, we hoped it would be better inside. Very disappointing room door lock was by yale key, it was loose and forced open at some point so did not seem secure. In room was tea and coffee but no safe, iron board, fridge or bottled water. Furnishings were tired with one stained chair, very depressing, although shower room had been refurbished. This was a deluxe room booked for 3 nights. We asked if another room was available and were shown two others unfortunately they were smaller and no more welcoming. Kerrie said if we stayed that night and were still unhappy in the morning we could have the other 2 nights refunded. We booked dinner for that evening. There were only 2 other diners, however meal was very nice, complements to the chefs. We had an uncomfortable night with hard pillows and a leaky cistern so decided to leave after breakfast. Breakfast was disappointing fry or cereal and toast, no yogurt, pastries or fruit selection offered. We checked out and paid for our meal from the evening before. The front desk could not issue a refund for the next 2 nights but assured us Kerrie would deal with it as she had left a note to say we might be checking out that morning. To date we have not received a refund (ÂŁ305). This hotel has gone back on what was agreed with staff.

I booked Oswald House for a family meal for an 80th birthday. We were given the Garden Room which was perfect for the 13 adults and 8 kids who attended. All the staff were great and very helpful, polite and accommodating. Would highly recommend this Hotel

Just home from a fabulous 4 night stay here. Everything from start to finish was amazing, you walk into the building into the entrance with a beautiful coal fire. The friendly staff cannot do enough for you. Lovely lady in house keeping who always made time to speak to us and was very knowledgeable about the local area. The rooms are stunning, they have done an amazing job on the refurb. The food was delicious and they were more than happy to change the menu for my 2 boys. Food and drinks are very reasonably priced.
The hotel location is in a stunning park and is a good central stop for days out to Edinburgh, St. Andrews etc.
Thank you Kerrie, Amy and Gary we had the best time and that was down to you guys. We will definitely be back soon.

+1
My self and my wife had booked in for a recent 3 night stay. Having stayed here before we knew what to expect but to say that the owners Sarah and Doug have continued to make improvements and put their own mark on this amazing historical building would be a complete understatement.
We had booked a meal for 7 adults and 4 of my grandchildren ages 8 -11. It was a birthday meal for my 11 year old granddaughter. She was made to feel so special and we were all catered for by top class staff serving amazing food. The food was very reasonably priced also.
The bedrooms are top class full of history and personal touches.
On our last night we were so kindly offered the wedding suite.
Everything about the room was fantastic. As a married couple for nearly 26 years we could feel the excitement that a bride and groom would experience from staying here.
We would highly recommend every aspect from the owners, staff, expansive beer garden with its own hand built bar, food, rooms and general ambiance as outstanding.

We haven’t dropped in to the Dunnikier for several years but the occasion of a friend’s death led us there after the funeral. I remember the days when the hotel was the best for miles, but even the new owners will take a long time to recover from the way it was let to go to ruin.
Cost cutting is still pretty evident and signs of refurbishment are everywhere while there seems to be a noticeable shortage of staff. However the tea was good enough and the service adequate taking into account the size of the party.
We won’t return for another few years but hope that the owners have deep enough pockets to get it back to its former glory.

Just back from three nights there, had an absolutely amazing time. Sarah, the lady who owns it couldn't have been any nicer and from the moment we crossed the door we were met with friendliness and helpfulness. Nothing was too much trouble. It is a beautiful old country house that is being lovingly renovated and restored, this takes time but I can tell you any small inconveniences are more than compensated for by the fantastic people who work there, I won't say staff because they are more like a large family, a special thanks to Josh, he is amazing. The views and surroundings are spectacular, squirrels and rabbits everywhere. The food is very tasty, beautifully presented and very reasonably priced, as are drinks in the bar. The rooms are tastefully decorated and very, very comfortable and we had an amazing view, there are no words.
If you enjoy staying in peaceful places that also offer great craic in the bar then Oswald House is a must. We wish every success to Sarah and her husband and would like to thank everyone who works there for the best hotel stay we've enjoyed in years. We will be returning.
