Huge disappointment.AVOID!!! We are always staying with Macdonal hotels all over Scotland, the main reason is-They do have great Spa facilities. Before booking the hotel in Aviemore I called up around lunchtime to clarify the opening of the leisure centre at the hotel. Where I was told the opening times are as usual. I booked the hotel and drow 2,5 hours to enjoy my fiances birthday (on the day) by having a nice spa break which was destroyed when arrived at the hotel where we were told that the leisure centre is closed for technical issues. so we drove up all that way to have dinner in a restaurant and nothing else. nobody cared to solve the situation. So the staff is unprofessional, without knowing what's going on in their own hotel and careless to make the day a little bit better. However we had a great birthday drive, a meal in the hotel restaurant-with a loud party in the same area, not even starting to talk about the state of the hotel; security or other things. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. there are plenty of other hotels to stay in nearby! …
Went as a family group for a two night stay at the Highlands Hotel. We had a Fab time and can’t wait to return. Double rooms were very comfortable and the Family rooms nice and spacious. All staff were very friendly and professional with a special mention to Duty Manager Nicola. Would definitely recommend a visit.
Arrived on Thursday night and Ryan at Reception was very helpful. He couldn’t have done enough for my daughter and I to ensure we had a delightful stay. We ate at the hotels own restaurant. The staff were courteous, professional, attentive and friendly. We ordered tap water with fruit (usually this is a wee test!) and it was lovely. They put strawberries, lime and lemon in the water and it was divine. The small things are the big things!! The food was delicious (goats cheese tart, soup, chicken and haggis and the burger). My daughter couldn’t finish the burger so we took it away in a doggy bag. The presentation of the food was lovely too. The breakfast was good with enough of a selection for us. The room was reasonably sized (we had a twin room) and super clean and quiet. Plenty of peppermint tea bags and bottled water. Last year we booked a lodge and it was BIG and lovely. More of us were staying last time. It’s the perfect place to stay as it is central, with the ski slopes just a short drive away. We hope to be back next year. …
Room was lovely and everything we hoped for. We had dinner at the aspects restaurant which was cooked to perfection. We needed a relaxing getaway and that was what we got. We enjoyed breakfast. The duty manager was very attentive to our needs.
We stayed in the Highlands Hotel, 2 adults & 2 children (7&4). Location was great and it’s a bonus that this hotel is joined onto the activity centre. Children enjoyed the soft play and pool, although wave machine not working and no pool scooters available as they were broken. Staff very welcoming and customer service was great. Room - at first glance the room was nice however there was a thick layer of dust round the edges of the carpet, my child dropped their new soft toy out of bed and when I picked it up it was filthy! The lamp bases and beside tables had a layer of dust also, it was clear that this room had not been properly dusted or deep cleaned for quite some time. As per other reviews, the lighting is very poor in the rooms. Onto the more serious issue with the room - the room had one window with wooden venetian blinds, the blind cords had been tied into a loop and were hanging freely, blind cord regulations came into force in 2014 and whilst any blinds installed prior to that date do not have to have a fixed point on the wall for cords, I would have expected a family hotel to have taken this safety precaution regardless of when the blinds were installed in order to comply with current safety regulations. To make matters worse, the children’s beds were against the wall with the window and the cord loops could easily be reached from my children’s beds! I was able to feed the cords through the closed slats at the very top of the blinds to keep them out of sight from the children but this played on my mind, of course my children were never left unattended at any point but I am very concerned that basic child safety regulations were not met in this family room.…
Stayed in the highland hotel at the resort in aviemore for two nights. The resort has really good facilities and the staff were all Friendly and helpful. Excellent selection of food at Breakfast. Good location to stay in for a trip to Aviemore
The Highland is just above Budget level Hotel and overall was comfortable. Staff were friendly. Everything clean. The bedrooms have no central light - just side lights that couldn't be relocated so the room was dark and not good for relaxing and reading. It did impact on our overall feeling about the stay. Also only one veggie meal so we had to eat out for three of our four nights. Maybe needs updated.
My children and I enjoyed the leasure facilities. The food was delicious. Staff very helpful and professional. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is an ideal location near to Aviemore. We hope to visit again. Thank you.
1-night stay in the Highlands Hotel of the resort for walking in the Rothiermurchus. Pros: Beautiful area of Highlands with a lot of tourist infrastructure around. Plenty of walks on the doorstep. Very quiet despite being in the center of the village. Beautiful room, comfortable beds, very clean. Good & tasty breakfast. Took the DBB package. The dinner is actually £25 allowance, drinks are not included (it gives £5 bonus). Dinner was good with different budget options. Wi-fi is free and fast to watch movies. Cons: There is no information about the hotel facilities opening times in the pre-arrival information. The Pool at the Activity center closes at 6 pm luckily I was allowed to use the pool on the day of the checkout. The cafe was closed on Monday probably due to the low season. The room was very cold on arrival. There are an electric heater and bathroom rail. It took a couple of hours to warm up.…
Lovely hotel, amazing staff, but restaurant terrible for vegetarians, sadly. The room was fantastic, very clean and comfortable and warm. Couldn’t fault it. I highly recommend a treatment from Lana; she’s amazing masseuse :-) The staff were all really lovely, again couldn’t fault the hotel on them. The restaurant, however, is worthy of a complete overhaul. The decor is rather dated given the prices they charge for food, and the piano playing Richard Claderman songs while other songs were being played in the same restaurant on another system wasn’t that great. I know the hotel couldn’t help what other guests were up to, but a chinese couple sat by us were really quite annoying and someone needs to teach the man you don’t eat steaks with your hands (actually never seen anyone do this before & I’ve travelled extensively). The menu is fine for carnivores. However a resort with such a good reputation should have more than one vegetarian main and one vegetarian starter. There didn’t appear to be any salads available at all, which is highly surprising. I hope the new chef makes a radical overhaul to their menu (I suggest having a look at the excellent menu at the Woodside, Doune if they need some inspiration) as, as the staff there know, I ended up only getting a couple of hours sleep due to said vegetarian meal which made me sick. This was our 20th anniversary and it was completely ruined.…
