Stayed at the Highland Hotel for 2 Night Breakfast and evening meal. Due to lack of availability we couldn't book table in the hotel restaurant for a normal family teatime, only 8.30pm left so we received refund of £50 to compensate for this but ideally should be able to book with no hassle and not have to go out with hotel complex? And why wasn't the open fire lit in the lounge area as it would have made it inviting/cosy and not the present lack of atmosphere ..ideas -table lamps to separate seating areas, screens, fake plants and light the fire which when I enquired at reception young gentleman informed me not lit till November???? Why paying guests are here now really got to be kidding!!! This hotel needs bit of an over due decoration and update for 4 star as it boost to be?

Booked for a week for our honeymoon as couldn’t get abroad due to Covid. Hotel seemed ideal online as a luxury resort, a good base in Aviemore and we went for the meal plan. Very pricey for what you get and the website was quite misleading. Our deluxe double room was just a standard hotel room, bed was comfortable but no housekeeping due to Covid so had to ask for things to be replenished during the stay which was just a drop off, the towels etc weren’t collected, bin not emptied etc. Very basic, not 4 star luxury. Our room was also right next to the busy A9 so was noisy all night long. Had to prebook dinner times which was fine but a bit constrictive. The food quality wasn’t great in either Aspects or Giovanni’s. We wouldn’t have chosen to go back to either had we not already paid for the meal plan, which was £25 per person, drinks not included. There was quite a few mistakes with food orders as well. Cinema ran out of popcorn before the movie even began, everywhere was closed so not much alternative for things to do in the evening and they seemed to be running on a skeleton staff. Having said that, the staff were pleasant. Hotel looks like it could’ve been a 4 star at one point but quite disappointing considering the cost and the fact that we were celebrating a special occasion just made it more of a let down. Wouldn’t return to the hotel.

Booked for a family getaway with our 7month old baby. The resort appeared to be very family friendly with swimming pool, soft play and restaurants would mean we wouldn’t need to leave the complex. In my booking confirmation it stated we were welcome along before checkin to use the hotel facilities so we arrived at 1pm hoping to have some lunch and go swimming. We were extremely disappointed to discover the leisure centre was closed and didn’t open until 3.30pm. We decided to grab some lunch instead but all restaurants were closed!! We were told the coffee shop would have some food available so walked here to then discover they had no child friendly food or high chairs. We had no option but to leave the complex and find somewhere that we could get something to eat for our little one. By this point it was time to head back and get a nap for our baby before heading to dinner. We only had two choices of restaurants for dinner and the bar in our hotel was closed. Check out the next day was 11am and we would have used the soft play & pool but there was no where to eat lunch again so had no choice but to just leave the hotel. Over all extremely disappointing, continually being told they were short staff, place is a ghost town, not worth the two hour drive or the money.

We stayed 2 nights at the Highland Hotel as part of a 3 week tour of Scotland. This hotel was by far the worst we stayed in and the levels of customer service were terrible. There seems to be no one to complain to either during or after your stay either. The impression given is that the hotel staff and the hotel group simply don’t care. I wish we’d opted for the campsite or Premier Inn both in Aviemore. Problems included a bedroom window which couldn’t be closed, exposed wiring in the bathroom of another bedroom, waiting in excess of 45 minutes to place any kind of order(food or drinks) in the restaurant, starters being served for an evening meal before drinks. This hotel was an utter waste of money for us and spoiled our holiday. The kids enjoyed the fun pool though!

We returned for 2 nights in Sept on a DBB basis having previously been on a B&B basis. On going to the room the entrance was musty, damp, and very tired. The room wasn’t much better. The armchairs have seen better days, stained, and threadbare, the carpet is as bad and I would not walk on it without the slippers provided. Breakfast is very basic, the sausage brand appears to have changed and is the cheapest available, bacon overcooked and chef was hardly seen, when he was asked to come out and replenish plates, eggs etc he was less than pleased. The dinner was edible, however, pre prepared and microwaved, not what you expect from a 4 star hotel. We were served our starters within 3/4 minutes of ordering. Is that freshly made? The waiting staff in restaurant, were rude, ignorant and disnterested, apart from showing you to a table there was no interaction whatsoever. Tables were given a wipe over but as for COVID regulations, they were non existent. Drinks! Why have a hotel full of guests and the main bar is shut! The Only bar open is the bar at the restaurant, only to be told when you want a drink that “I’m sorry this bar services the restaurant”. Who serves the rest of the hotel? When we did manage to get a drink I was charged £12 for a glass of red wine! WTF.! We like to away to enjoy good food, good wine, good service, interaction with other guests, and we can honestly say that we did not get any of that at this hotel, having stayed twice this year, we will not be back
