Went to Columbridge with Caledonian Travel. Read review before going and had reservations but found the hotel much better than previous reviews. The rooms were basic but clean and tidy with comfy beds. The breakfast buffet was very good and the evening meal also a buffet was varied and tasty. Only complaint was putting dirty towels and rubbish out into corridor as no room service.
We had an overnight stay last weekend and couldn’t fault the hotel. Some areas were a bit dated but it looked like the owners are addressing them.,The staff were lovely and helpful, our room was comfortable and clean and the food was delicious. The pool was a good size too.
Stayed in a Courtyard room. The floors are clearly sheets of plywood under the carpet that creak and squeak as soon as you make anymore of a movement than breathing. You can hear when the rooms next door or upstairs move around, yet more creaking and fire exit doors propped open all night so guests can have a smoke. £19 per person for a Buffett dinner that’s cheap and nasty. Used the gents public toilets in the lobby, one cubical had no light, one no toilet paper then to top it off the final one the bolt on the lock was spaced to far apart from the lock so couldn’t be locked.. On the plus side the gentlemen on the bar were very friendly and the bar is stocked with fantastic Cairngorm brewery beer.
My partner and son spent a fabulous weekend at this hotel. After reading the bad reviews I was sceptical but it was brilliant from start to finish!! We stayed Saturday to Monday for the Scottish September weekend. Check in was 4pm and we arrived at 4 and the queue was small- we waited 10mins max, there were 2 on reception- the lady we had was so lovely (short blonde hair) friendly and very helpful. We were given room 40 and it was 2 x double bedded room, from opening the door it had a lovely fresh smell, it was immaculate, bright, clean, and very modern with loads of room to move around.loads of fresh towels and spare pillows. The bedd were very comfortable and pillows ready thick and soft. Complimentary toiletries and tea and coffee facilities with a view of the forest. We booked for swimming for 5pm. The changing rooms were immaculate with loads of lockers and the floor was dry and clean. There are 2 pools- shallow to 0.9m with a small paddling pool for babies and kids slide, the other is the bigger pool with an in built bubble pool which the kids are allowed in (usually seperate hot Jacuzzis are only teen and adult's allowed) so my son was.loving this. There is an adult only sauna and steam room which my partner loved for some relaxation.the water was warm in both pools which is a total plus!! All staff in the leisure centre were very polite an friendly. You can hire towels for £1 each or bring them from your room- lockers are £1 (refundable). On Saturday there was a lady called Jill offering pottery painting in the hotel (£10 or £12 each for a choice of pottery). We were talking to Jill and she said she was in The Fun house" on sunday at 12 so we decided to do pottery painting when we had more time. In the evening there was entertainment in the main reception are which has lovely sofas and tables to relax on and a well stocked bar. We didn't eat dinner in the restaurant as we had booked dinner in Aviemore but the menu looked good offering a buffet £19.95 adults and £9.95 for children. The breakfast was in the restaurant and was Amazing! Loads to choose from hot and continental choice. Al the usual cooked breakfast and all really tasty. Choice of cereals, pastries, fresh juices and tea and coffee. The restaurant is lovely and a lovely ambience. All staff again very friendly and polite. We ventured out on Sunday to the FUN HOUSE which is onsite and we were amazed by what was inside- adventure golf at only £2pp for hotel guests, also a soft play for younger kids, bowling alley, amusements and diner with pool table and ping pong table. We had a game of adventure golf which was really fun and 2 courdes then my son went to join Jill for his pottery that he really loved and she is so lovely and friendly. We had a game of pool and drink and snacks in the diner. Tge wa sa bar called the Woodhouse but was closed when were there but looked good with inside and outdoor seating. We went to the ski outdoor area and there is a selection of activities and my son opted for trampolining and the climbing wassl - £5 each. In the grounds of the hotel there is a lovely new area with interactive dinosaurs which proved a hit with everyone. There is also a lovely playpark with zip line, chutes and swings etc and enclosed area with tennis court and football area with goals. The hotel grounds have so much on offer and you could probably get away without leaving the area, they also hire bikes out and there are so many lovely areas for cycling or walking. All in all this was a fantastic weekend. The hotel was brilliant, staff lovely and couldn't do enough!! It's immaculate and has loads to offer families. Please don't always believe the reviews as people are quick to say when not happy but never praise even when it's due. We travel alot as a family and have been to many hotels over the UK and Ireland and I have to say this is one of the best!!! Also just to mention Aviemore is a lovely place to visit, the main strip has lovely bars and restaurants and nice gift shops too. …
1st Impressions when we arrived was that it did not look like the photos on the website. It looked a bit run down. On going to reception we had to wait as there was only one person on with a trainee who had obviously just started that day. We had to go and book to use the pool as there were time slots and we had to book for that evening as the pool was shut the next day. When we went to the room it was a bit dated and the carpet was stained. The bed was not that comfortable. When our time slot for the pool came up we went to the pool and had to pay extra for a towel. The pool area was shabby and in need of a paint. We didn't stay for the alloted hour. When we went for our meal we found out it was a buffet in a dining room that was more like a canteen. The food was very average. Roast dinner with Yorkshire puds you could not cut as they were so tough. We had to ask a waiter to get a drinks order. We ordered drinks and one of them was wrong. Felt the drinks were a bit expensive. I would point out that the light fittings over the food had a thick layer of dust on them. When we settled down to go to bed the people in the next room decided to have a party. At 12:30am having had enough we reported it to reception who dealt with it very quickly. I would however point out that bedroom doors slam shut so this went on for another half hour after the party broke up. A positive was the buffet breakfast which was much better than the dinner. Finally when we did checkout the receptionist was not interested enough to ask if we enjoyed our stay. Please be aware of the late check in time 4pm and the early check out time 10am. Do yourselves a favour, book somewhere else. We definitely won't be going back. Not worth the money. …
I had previously stayed here and given the place a poor review. After I stayed this time I am happy to have changed my mind and to give a positive review. The staff were excellent in the way they dealt with check in. The breakfast was a far smoother process. I heard later in the day the support that the hotel is giving newcomers and that is to be celebrated and praised.
Friendly staff warm welcome and pleasant stay. Have been before building is older but looked like a brand new sauna. Had seen a few negative reviews so decided to say something positive. It’s not the easiest time for the hotel industry but staff clearly doing their best
This place is dreadful. The rooms are small, dirty, noisy and the beds are truly shocking. The pillows are also awful. If you get a room in the “courtyard” then do not accept it. Complain like your life depends on it. It may by the way. Conor on reception was particularly rude. The night receptionist seemed beaten by life and admitted it was a sh1thole ever since Hilton sold it to current owners. Not a penny spent Also the chairs in the bar are so disgusting it is unreal. Just an awful place
Booked two rooms for a birthday night and both were dirty, they hadn't been hoovered, were dusty, wetwall was dirty and covered in hairs and dead bugs all over the carpet. Our sons room had a gift in the toilet and I'm not sure what the yellow stuff was in the sink. Absolutely disgusting. Complained to the manager and she initially laughed at my complaint and then offered to clean the rooms, all she done was flush the toilet and empty the sink. She didn't clean anything and gave us an embarassing 10% discount for spending the night in two dirty rooms. Not worth the money, the cheaper option in Aviemore is the premier Inn, guaranteed 5* customer service and clean rooms.
We have just returned from a lovley little break. After reading the reviews before we came we were abit apprehensive but was a great time we had. There was a wee que in at check in but the staff work so hard and we're really friendly. The restaurant was really nice with alot off choice. We sat in the main area and enjoyed a paninie and pot of tea which is served in the cutest little tea pot. There is a soft play which my 4 year old loved. She also enjoyed doing the pottery in the soft play and she loved it that much she had another go in the hotel the next day. The swimming pool was good, the guy on the reception and the girl who works in the pool were both really nice. There is so much for familys to do here with the play park, trampolines, crazy golf. Our dog loved all the lovley walks outside and down by the water. Loch morlich is absolutely beautiful aswell just a short drive from the hotel. We will definitely return…
