Without being a ‘snob’, a bunkouse isn’t usually the type of place we’d stay in with the kids, but after deciding on a last minute trip to Aviemore for the night, there was literally zero availability in the nearby hotels and lodges we’d usually book. That said, after a couple of emails back and forward, we booked a ‘family room’. Everything was clearly explained in an email, and check in was seamless. The room itself was fairly basic as you’d expect, but it was spotless. Our room had a set of bunkbeds, a sofabed and a double bed (with it’s own WC and shower). There was a fridge, kettle (milk & coffee), a dining table and plenty of storage for clothes. It was perfect for what we needed. The beer garden (Old Bridge Inn next door) on the banks of the spey was also absolutely superb. It was a 10/10 experience overall and we’d highly recommend. The next time we’re in Aviemore, this will likely be the first place we check for availabilty! 👍🏼

Comfortable and cheap....does what a bunkhouse should! helpful friendly staff went out of their way when children left electrionic items in luggage room! Good setting off point for paddle and great food next door.

Two of us stayed there for three nights. We were on a winter climbing trip and had our outdoor gear with us. Plus: The beds were lovely and clean and superbly hot water from the sinks and showers. It's next to a pub! Minus: There is so little room for any of your stuff. You can't unpack a bag as it needs to live on the floor, under your bed if you've got a bottom bunk. There is a drying room on the ground floor. It's a complete waste of time. It's supposedly got underfloor heating but at no stage in the three days we were there was there any warmth in the room at all. There's another room on the first floor, but you are asked not to put out door gear in it as it's full of the hostel's laundry. The cleaner was very pleasant!

We stayed here for a week while on a mountaineering course. Good location next to the pub and an easy walk into town, for buses/trains. The kitchen is small but was fine for our visit. Rooms were clean and cosy.

The bunkhouse itself did exactly what it said on the tin. But we found the management to be horrendous. It really ruined the end of our trip. We were made to feel unwelcome, and as if we had somehow made a massive faux-pas. In addition to this there was no hot water for 2 days. And we were on a winter climbing trip so could really have done with showers. We told the cleaner about the hot water and she was lovely about it - but there weren't any other staff around. We didn't see anyone. At all. We actually had to go and find someone from the pub next door to check us in. We had arranged to leave a day earlier than planned and were told by the person who checked us in that we'd get our refund for that night sorted when we checked out. When it came to it though the Wendy in the office was unhelpful at best, and at worst a mixture of bizarrely defensive and obstructive. It was like a case study in how not to deal with customers. We left the place feeling very unwelcome and it kind of ruined the end of the trip. We also didn't get our refund. I tried to sort it out on the phone with Wendy after we got home but was pretty much stonewalled. I tried to be as polite and as diplomatic as possible. She interrupted me constantly and I got the impression that I had done something quite offensive to her - although I have no idea what that could have been. I would never recommend staying at this place. There's a perfectly good hostel over the road. The pub was excellent though. I don't think Wendy works there.
