Cairngorm Lodge Youth Hostel is an old Scottish shooting lodge offering stunning views of the Northern Corries... Situated in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, seven miles from Aviemore and just two miles from the Cairngorm mountain funicular and snowsports area, this youth hostel provides an ideal base for year-round activities, including hillwalking, climbing, snowsports, mountain biking, pony trekking, watersports and fishing. This 72-bed youth hostel provides great facilities including a good range of multi-share and private rooms, a well-equipped self-catering kitchen, cycle store, drying room, internet and Wi-Fi access. Cooked breakfasts, packed lunches and full evening meals are also available. Cairngorm Lodge Youth Hostel is popular with outdoor enthusiasts, families and groups looking for budget accommodation. Wi-Fi during your stay: We do our best to deliver a free Wi-Fi service but apologise that connectivity, particularly in our rural locations, can be intermittent due to the level of our current broadband provision along with high usage when the youth hostel is busy. Please be assured we are endeavouring to improve where we can. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Beautiful old Lodge in a stunning location. Accommodation was spotlessly clean and comfy. Food was delicious ( and plentiful ) and Mark and his team were friendly , helpful and cheerful. Couldn't really ask for anything more. Would definitely recommend - Can't wait to return .

Cairngorm Lodge Youth Hostel is in an ideal location just a few minutes walk from Loch Morlich. The hostel has recently been renovated to a high standard; with each bed having a plug socket and USB charging points. Staff were super friendly, and overall this was an ideal hostel location. My only niggle is that all the food I had (from multiple nights) was heated via the microwave. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it is important that staff check the food is hot before serving. Further, having the microwave visible to everyone when preparing wasn't ideal.

The Cairngorm Lodge is an ideal site to stay with only a 5-minute walk to Loch Morlich beach and Aviemore being just 6 miles away, the staff at the hostel were found to be friendly and helpful, the room was spotless, a great place to stay, we'll be back :D

Great YH ideally located for outdoor activities in the cairngorms and Rothiemurchus. Clean, tidy, staff friendly and informative! Bedrooms are fab, beds comfy! Bus service near by but not great. Not YH fault though. They have a good bike shed which was key to our stay. Highly recommended for cheap clean digs!

We had 3 nights here as a base during our trip. The hostel has recently been refurbished throughout and it is such a shame that they can’t open all of the facilities due to Covid. All of the rooms have an allocated bathroom at the moment due to ‘ Covid rules’ and these are brand new and very spacious, with hot showers. Wifi is good and there is tea and coffee available from reception free of charge. Parking is easy and on-site. All of the staff were really helpful and friendly. We had a dog friendly room ( extra £5 per night for dog). Would definitely use as a base in the Cairngorms again.

Stayed in a family room for 1 night. Great location about 10 mins outside Aviemore. Very well run. Like all places, they are getting back up to speed after lockdown. Not all facilities are open, but they offered own bathrooms, own tables for self catering and hot water for drinks. As always, staff were friendly and accommodating.

Place has just reopened after reburb. Much of the work seems to have been on the exterior - new roof (?) and windows / doors, but interior has also been improved - refurnished, and new "pod" style washrooms - a vast improvement on the 1970s communal washrooms now gone. Onsite parking, and views across to the Cairngorm range. Staff friendly and helpful. Room spacious and comfortable. Limited access to comunal areas due to COVID, but deignated space in dining room and WiFi in lobby area still available.

Breakfast was excellent value (£7.50) and came with a full English as well as a buffet style continental option + hot drinks and juice. Beds were comfortable and everything worked well. Sink in the 6 bed dorm was useful. Washroom facilities were spacious and clean. So why not 5*? The hostel doesn't have WiFi. It works in the reception but apart from that, it didn't work at all. Room had nothing, dining room had nothing and the lounge had the most miniscule amount, it wasn't even worth connecting. As well as this, the hostel didn't have enough plug sockets and in the 6 bed dorm (as far as I could tell) it only had one!!! The hostel seem to be spending a lot of money on renovating the buildings (judging by the construction work outside). Maybe they should focus their finances elsewhere. Other than that though, it's a well located hostel with friendly staff and (apart from the WiFi) good facilities.

Response from HostellingScot, Guest Relations Manager at Cairngorm Lodge Youth Hostel
Responded 9 Oct 2019
Hi there thank you for your review and highlighting the areas you liked and areas for our consideration. As you mentioned we are having some major work being carried out externally to the roof and walls of the building, which have had to be carried out as a priority. When this work is complete there will be some internal work being carried out. Your point about sockets are something that we are addressing so thanks for raising this. The WIFI on the other hand is actually a very complicated process in such a rural mountainous area. The WIFI requires some major external work to be carried out by providers for us to be able to deliver the coverage we would ideally want. As we mention on our website in such a rural location our WIFI is only available in certain areas of the hostel and the speed of this is dependant upon how many of our guests are using it at the same time. Thank you for your understanding

We haven’t stayed in the Youth Hostel but have had some lovely takeaways & meals from the kitchen. We stay at the campsite across the road every summer and always enjoy a trip up for chips or the 2 course sit down meal. The guys that work there are fab. The hostel itself always looks busy and everyone is always really friendly
