I rarely write reviews but I had to post something about Glen Affric. Hiking into the wilderness, bringing everything you need for a few days stay and then finding such a comfortable, well-appointed well-maintained hostel was a unique experience. I disagree with other some other reviewers, given the logistics of replenishing supplies, I thought it excellent value. And as a...

We spent a wonderful three days at this cosy, friendly and extremely well-run hostel and would love to return. Wet and tired when we arrived at about 6.30pm, we were welcomed by Hanne with scones and a big smile. We had one of the twin rooms and slept like logs. A hot shower was a surprise bonus, and we enjoyed...

Hard to find places in the UK which feel really remote but this ticks all the boxes. Weather wasn't great low clouds and mist when we climbed but didn't really detract from the experience. Have stayed in alpine huts but preferred this as small and cosy. I had one of the rooms in main building with bunk beds and although...

I camped outside here while two of my friends stayed inside. We'd been told by SYHA that the hostel was welcoming to campers, and that we'd be able to pay a couple of pounds to use the showers. However the woman running the hostel made us feel completely unwelcome and said using the facilities cost £11 - needless to say...

we recently spent a weekend in this bunkhouse hostel, where we had an excellent welcome from the warden, Hanne. whichever direction you arrive from it is a walk of four or more hours, with lots of streams to jump over. once there you are surrounded by mountains. the amenities are basic but the atmosphere warm and friendly.

Fantastic stay with a lovely warm welcome from Audrey. Facilities were brilliant with everything there we needed. Room, toilets and shower were lovely and clean. It made a long cycle the next day a lot easier knowing that we had a good sleep and warm breakfast. Thank you.

We walked to the youth hostel from Glen Affric lodge and arrived at this youth hostel in the middle of nowhere to a warm welcome from Hannah. She had made scones with cinnamon and dates freshly baked - delicious! What a fantastic place. Our party of shared a dormitory and the facilities were perfect - glamping! The Buchan family

We arrived in the rain, and the rain and wind continued to be a part of our three days hill walking, but thankfully this warm haven of tranquillity revived the spirits (and dried the cloths) every evening. Hanna's low key warden style complimented the friendly atmosphere of this remote hostel retreat, and there was a constant stream of similar minded...

Amenities

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
len Affric Youth Hostel is a unique and remote youth hostel in a wide river valley surrounded by high mountains. Situated 8 miles from the nearest road, our remote Eco-Hostel offers an unforgettable experience. A former stalking bothy on the Glen Affric Estate it is a haven for walkers, nature lovers and those seeking solitude. On the doorstep are 15 Munro hills and good tracks through the valleys for both walking and mountain biking. The youth hostel is only accessible on foot or by mountain bike, please allow at least 3-4 hours for the walk in. (see How to find us for more information). The location is very special and it is the closest you will get to an Alpine Hut in Scotland. A great experience awaits those who are prepared to make the effort to visit. Wi-Fi during your stay: We do our best to deliver a free Wi-Fi service but apologise that connectivity, particularly in our rural locations, can be intermittent due to the level of our current broadband provision along with high usage when the youth hostel is busy. Please be assured we are endeavouring to improve where we can. We thank you for your patience and understanding ... more   less

“Booking was a problem. This cannot be done at the usual SYHA booking office. I was passed around four telephone numbers before I was able to book a room ... and the warden still didn't know who was arriving on the day! Inverness YHA is apparently responsible for taking bookings for Glen Affric YHA. Phone them direct. Don't bother becoming a YHA member ... It will only save you £2 on the overnight fee!”
