Our hosts Michael and Karen were brilliant and very helpful. we only stayed one night as we were catching the ferry to the Orkneys the following morning. on arrival Michael was there to greet us and to take our luggage to the rooms which were very comfortable and clean. michael a retired fire chief with the local brigade was very...

I've stayed at a few B+B's in the area and can safely say this has been the best one I've stayed at. The main thing I look for is a decent bed, a hot shower and a great fryup. I got all of these things from my stay at the Byries and more. For reference, I paid £25pn.

Stayed at The Byries last night en route to Orkney. Mike & Barbara made me most welcome, along with my dog who they doted over and even looked after whilst I went out with a friend. If anyone is heading up to john o groats/tongue/durness or anywhere up in the northern highlands you couldnt go far wrong with bedding down at the byries b&b in the outskirts of thurso near john o groats, it's a quaint dormer bungalow, its cheap, has a good Scottish fry up in the morning, has a garage for motorcycles which is...
