I almost don't want to tell people how special this place is, in case too many visitors spoil the peace! John runs a very special place, where you can go and just be yourself, rest, recharge your batteries and return to your normal life with some of the spirit of Iona in your heart.

Hello Deirdre, Thank you for your lovely message and I'm glad that you enjoyed your time on Iona. John.

John, Collette and Misa created a heavenly environment which wrapped around us during our creative workshop which was held at the hostel. The location, next to a white secluded beach, could beat any Caribbean resort. The hostel lived up to and went beyond its eco credentials. John's devotion to the Island is evident in the sensitive way he has blended...

Despite the exciting weather, gale force winds and torrential rain we loved our stay on Iona. We stayed in the Shepherds Bothy. Very cosy and romantic, just what you need apart from a bathroom and toilet which is in the youth hostel. Such a delightful secluded spot, very special. From what we saw of the youth hostel would recommend that...

Lovely place with friendly people. Warm welcome. Great common room with a wonderful kitchen, big table and cosy lounge. Very clean, good atmosphere - a real gem on the island! I don't think that was my last stay there :)

We knew Iona Hostel well before we chose to have our wedding and house party there and it was even more fantastic than we'd imagined! We booked the whole hostel for 4 nights and stayed with 20 family and close friends and it was perfect in every respect - including the warm welcome from John the owner, the discreet efficiency...

Never been to a hostel before, but this was an amazing experience. Such a friendly owner. Very clean. Quiet. Lovely common room. Setting, though a bit of a walk from the main part of town, is worth it for its views and solitude. I would definitely go back and stay longer.

Five bedrooms (two with 6 beds (bunks), two with four beds (bunks) and one twin (not bunks). Good shower/toilet facilities, good kitchen/lounge - can get very crowded if everyone in there at the same time. The hostel is at the much quieter and more peaceful north end of the island, surrounded by fields and Hebridean sheep. The North End beach...

I have been a regular visitor to the Iona Hostel since 2003 and can say without a shadow of a doubt it's the best hostel I have visited in the world. Amazing location looking out over the ocean at the north end of the island, comfortable bunk beds with (importantly) plenty of space to store your belongings even on the...

We spent two very comfortable nights here in October, and enjoyed our stay. The hostel is in quite a special location, a very short walk across the machair to some beautiful beaches with soft, pale sand and craggy rocks. The hostel has a number of bunk rooms which are clean, modern, and plenty warm enough (the windows can be opened...

What a wonderful hostel - stunning location, great host and volunteers and a really sound environmental ethos. Perfect base for exploring Iona, for meeting a variety of fellow travellers, or just contemplating the incredible views.
