Has had its day decor and refurbishment wise. Excellent bar and restaurant very popular. Great sraff and service. Rooms are very clean and beds comfy. Everything else is old worn and drab....Very good location and good value nevertheless.

The only thing that I found fairly good was breakfast. All the rest was negative: nasty staff, dirty rooms...I would never go back there. There was one nice woman at the reception when I arrived, the others being impolite, unhelpful...

Stayed here recently for two nights. Parking was the first issue as the entrance to the car park is at the rear of the hotel which entails driving round the block to gain access but once we found it, it was fine. The hotel is old and it was quite a trekto our room which involved going up and down...

I came here 29th October to carry on my research about the castle, which I am writing about. The first impression was good: a young woman, at the reception, helped me carry my suitcase, though I had not asked for help. Kind and nice she was but all the other staff members were absolutely nasty...apart from a young, tiny man...

This floor plan of this hotel rambles all over the place. Finding our room was confusing. Once we found the room it was dated, but clean and comfortable. No complaints other than the extremely funky floor plan and old feeling. Breakfast was included and it was served by waitresses and was satisfactory. The place was a good value. It's right...

A weekend stay for a gang of 10 of us. Very competitive rates and the room was clean and overall had no complaints.Breakfast was fine and in this scenario I felt the hotel represented real value for money

Stayed at the Club House one night on our trip. Room was a bit dated but comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Bar area very inviting and dining was only a few steps from the bar area. Gere (sp) was our bar tender and waiter. Super friendly and helpful. Only a short walk to the castle and shops.

Formerly and 'gentleman's club' back in the days, the hotel has kept the character, architecture, and ambiance alive!! The ornate bar is the original bar from 240 years ago! Staying here is like stepping back in time! Loved it! Get the local beer on tap. It is no longer Smithwick's but the bartender will tell you which one it is....

Quaint, Quirky and full of character this hotel with all it's nooks and crannies it a delight with something to look at around every corner. You couldn't be placed in a more central location to explore all the delights Kilkenny has to offer. I know I speak for every member of my extended family we will not stay anywhere else...
