Stayed one night at the Hillgrove Monaghan it was booked at the very last minute for a much needed break . On arriving I was told there was a 50.00 euro supplant for Saturdays which to be fair totally my fault for not reading pigsback terms and conditions . We were given too 309 a small double and a single bed . On looking round the room I thought it was very basic not like a four star hotel very outdated .and bed very uncomfortable .The lady on reception explained nothing to us check out times we weren’t even told there was a 10.00 voucher of spa treatments or late checkout with our pigsback deal. After arriving home I read on hotels website there was 10% of food for senior citizens but we weren’t told this even though we did eat at the hotel . Breakfast was good but most of all the staff in breakfast was excellent friendly and very helpful . Won’t be rushing back to the hotel to me it isn’t 4 star . Can’t comment on spar or pool didn’t use them .

Checked in for one night getaway. Everything from checking in, our room (suite), the facilities and the restaurant was perfect. Our suite room was stunning, rose petal bed with swans, welcome plate and champagne and the bath tub in the room was a lovey bonus. The hot outdoor jacuzzi was lovely on a cool crisp evening followed by swim and relaxing in the steam room. The resturant food was top notch, very tasty and well priced. Breakfast buffet had a great variety including alternative milks and bread, the pancake machine was a nice extra. I wanted my pancakes toasted a little extra, this was no trouble at all to the chef who took her time to toast them for me :) Cannot wait to go back!!

We had a long awaited family lunch in the bar in hilgrove recently..Due to covid restrictions, and a busy work schedule for Christmas we had no chance for a get together so this ment a great deal to us .. Well as a family we were not disappointed from the moment we walked in we were assisted by the lovely Kate . Even with a fiesty 3 year old nothing was to much for the staff for us to be made feel comfortable and happy ..I did not catch the other girls name that was also working that day but she also was amazing ..I genuinely felt it was thd right decision to pick PK's bar to have our meal here . Our food was absolutely amazing..couldn't fault anything ..plenty to eat in each course . In general we as a family will return . We will have more with us next time restrictions allowing ..all covid guidance honored and the place was spotless I will say ..I can't talk enough about the whole experience..well done the Hilgrove and well done PK's ...10/10 Thank you Kate and her co worker You made it for us as a family ..thank you

Stayed as a family of 4 (children aged 1 and 4) in January 22. Room - located on ground floor, which was a bonus due to the amount of luggage required travelling with a young family. We booked a family room and was expecting a double and a single bed with a cot (rang ahead to arrange for the room). When we arrived we had a double, single and set of bunk beds to the delight of our 4 year old. Could easily have slept 2 adults and 4 or 5 children. Room was very spacious, a necessity when travelling with a young family. Decor was a bit tired but not to the point of causing any real disappointment. Bed was really comfortable and the shower was great. Separate bath was great too for bathing the kids. Bar / restaurant - ate in bar area for lunch and dinner, with breakfast in the restaurant. Menus catered for all the family and food and drinks were lovely…more expensive than was expecting. Breakfast was really lovely and they even have a pancake maker which went down well. Pool - due to restrictions you are asked to arrive dressed for the pool and then you pack your belongings in a basket which sits at poolside while you’re there…not the most secure but didn’t cause much concern and we’re in strange times. Children loved the pool and the adults enjoyed the outdoor hot tub. Staff - can’t rate highly enough. From check in to check out, everyone we met was pleasant and couldn’t help enough. Special mention to Chris in the bar, she made such a fuss of the children and was very helpful. There was a blonde haired lady who served us breakfast who was also great, but never got her name. There was nothing OTT just brilliant service. In general the stay was brilliant. We’ll definitely be back. First week of January the hotel was quiet. Not sure if this was due to time of year, COVID or both but this suited us perfectly and we’d book again for this time of year.

I have been coming to the Hillgrove Hotel for the past 12 years and also had my wedding reception here. There is no doubt that the hotel is gorgeous and new decor is fab. This hotel has won many awards over the years. I always remember it being so child friendly and fun for the kids under old management when they had the bouncy castle in the function room and the kids play room with pool table. Sadly these have been removed, although there is still a kids club and cinema. My only gripe this time around was the size portions of food and the price increase. My boys ordered pepperoni pizza from the kids menu but they were tiny and only about 4 pieces of pepperoni on the whole pizza. We ordered the large portion of wings which come as a main dish but the portion was tiny and just like a normal starter portion. I ordered a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, not a large but that’s what was brought down to me, the price of this was €10.50. Needless to say I didn’t stay on the wine! So they would be my only gripes about our stay this time around. Our room was in a great location and spotless as per usual. I look forward to coming back again but hopefully the food portions might be reviewed, and maybe the wine too!.
