I rarely leave reviews but I felt the need to after being left so disappointed. Last night myself and friends went for dinner and drinks at 6pm,the lady who took our details and Covid certs was very friendly. We were then seated upstairs in a corner but we were basically forgotten about. After waiting 10mins with no menus or no staff member to ask us about drinks we had to go up and ask for menus ourselves. 10 minutes after this and after sitting a total of 20mins with no staff members coming over we had to go up to the bar to ask a bar runner to take a drinks order and to find someone who could take our food order. We got our drinks promptly but it was just after 6.30 by the time we got a food order taken, who knows how long it would have taken if we had just sat and waited and not having to chase down a staff member. We were very close to paying for the drinks and leaving due to the wait.We ended up not ordering starters as we wouldn't have time to eat 3 courses in the time we had left. After mains our waitress cleared us then forgot about bringing dessert menus, one of our group left early and had to ask someone to bring us one. It was almost 10 to 8 by the time we got our dessert and we had to rush it.There was a large group beside us and we just feel like we were completely forgotten about while they were there, after they had left while we had our mains we were asked about drinks a few times. Perhaps if we had been downstairs we would have been looked after.I understand in the lead up to Christmas it can be busy and tiring, but it wasn't busy enough at the time for us to be forgotten about. With the 8pm closing time I expected service to be a lot better in order to sell more drinks and food etc but this wasn't the case. Also, please bring the pasta dish back!

Visited this place today for lunch, party of two. Ordered two bowls of soup, a chicken sandwich and a club sandwich and two pints of milk. Waited and waited....... eventually we asked where our order was and received the sandwiches and milk. The vegetable soup arrived after we had eaten same, a thick, gloupy flavourless mixture. For this experience we were charged €29, we did voice our dissatisfaction to the server who took our payment but she acted like we had never spoken. On the positive side, we are very grateful we didn't order a full meal, based on the quality of food as basic as soup and sandwiches God only knows what we would have been served. Will not be back to this place in a hurry!

Finding myself in Monaghan town for the first time, and it being a little late in the afternoon, the imperative was to find a place to stay overnight. Town Centre, known as the Diamond, was were I was directed towards the Westenra. Reception found me a room about which I was not fussed but it was very respectable for an off the street enquiry. It was at the rear of the building and was quite satisfactory for my requirements. The first pleasant surprise was the dining room in scale and decor. My impression that it was an old building was challenged by very nice fittings. The food I chose was excellent and the service was both quick and attentive. Breakfast saw me in the Breakfast Room which is between two structures with a full glass ceiling overhead. Again great waitress service and an array of good fayre options for breakfast . I was much impressed as it so exceeded my misplaced expectations

Excellent clean hotel with friendly staff and a great breakfast. Hotel food good as well especially the puddings. Only downside the wifi was very erratic and the car park is closed, so you have to park locally which wasnt a problem and they will refund you if you have to pay.

Great location bang in the centre of town. Beautiful relaxing lobby area to chill and have a few drinks. Staff were super helpful & friendly and drinks reasonably priced. Rooms were fine nothing special but comfortable & spotless. Star of the show was breakfast - My family stay in hotels literally dozens of times a year for short breaks and this was by far the best breakfast we have had in any and including five star accommodation. Would not hesitate to go back
