Visiting Sligo is always a pleasure and travelling by train from Dublin the Southern Hotel is always first choice. This time we brought our eldest grandchild with us and the room we had was splendid. Room 304. Plenty of room to spread ourselves, and even a jacuzzi bath to relax in after trotting around Sligo town.

Hotel is in a nice location. That is the only positive thing. When you enter hotel, they have downstairs all modern around reception area. When you open bedroom door its so old and outdated. Rooms are very basic. This is not a three star hotel!! Reception staff not friendly and not professional. Imagine saying to a guest "Stand there until...

Dear Lisa L, Thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback, we are disappointed that you didn't enjoy your stay with us. Our hotel was built in 1928 and our rooms are decorated in keeping with the old world feel, I will raise the issue of reception at our next management meeting, we have had new reception staff...

On approach to hotel I was dismayed to see 2 sets of steps which had to be mounted with luggage on tow before we could reach reception. The hotel is ideally situated, just a nice walkin distance from city centre. The bed rooms were very basic and very dated, but otherwise clean and fresh. I found the reception staff polite but...

Hotel was easy to find with signs directing to it. Took us a few minutes to realize we had to climb 2 sets of stairs to reach the lobby as it is not on ground level. We dragged our suitcases up the stairs although later found out someone would have helped us. Check in was efficient but not overly helpful....

The location of this hotel is perfect for a short stroll to the bars and restaurants of Sligo town. It's also only 5-10 mins drive to the beautiful beaches at Strandhill and Rosse Point. Older style hotel but the rooms need updating - badly. Location of the hotel was good, a short walk into the centre of town, but nothing to complain about.
